Microsoft Certified Master Program for Exchange Server 2010

Starting in summer 2011, IT engineers and consultants all over the world will have an opportunity to earn MCM status on Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 by passing the required exams at one of many international testing centers.

Microsoft officials say the change was made in response to increased demand for the certification. “We wanted to make the exam more accessible,” says Navin Chand, senior product manager, Exchange. “This change will extend our reach to more experts. The training in Redmond that everyone loves will continue. However, it is no longer mandatory for certification.”

So… about that price increase (Microsoft)

So… about that price increase

Yes, it’s true: we’re raising our MCP exam prices for the first time in almost a decade. (Technically, I should probably say "changing" since not every country will see an increase, but for most of you, it's an increase.) The new prices go into effect on July 1st (August 1st in India).

(If you haven’t already, read the announcement and FAQ before going any further.)

Why? And Why Now?

This probably isn’t welcome news—especially if you’re already in progress towards your certification and you’ve planned your budget carefully. (If this includes you, keep reading to find out how to lock in our current pricing for a while longer.) After all, who would want to pay more for something than they had planned to?

No one enjoys paying higher prices, which is why no one really gets excited about having to ask their customers to do so, especially in our business, where our mission is to make successful...

Education and experience: is there an ideal mix for becoming a CIO

Education and experience: is there an ideal mix for becoming a CIO

Many IT professionals see themselves as chief information officers (CIOs) in the making, but how should they go about realising this ambition, and what, for that matter, does the role require anyway?

The trouble budding CIOs face is that there is no clear career path in terms of either education or experience, compared with high-profile positions in disciplines such as law or medicine.

The duties and responsibilities of the CIO are varied. Job site Monster.co.uk put together a typical CIO job spec for Computing that outlines key competencies, based on the CIO roles that it has advertised.

These competencies include...

How IT pros cheat on certification exams

Incidents of cheating on IT certifications are on the rise, a trend that experts say is an outward sign of the desperation felt by out-of-work and under-employed IT professionals.
Training organizations are responding by intensifying their efforts to catch cheaters through cutting-edge defenses, such as biometric identification of test-takers and custom, computer-generated exams.

The Impact of Technology Service Packs and Revisions on Exam Content

The Impact of Technology Service Packs and Revisions on Exam Content

If you’re preparing to take an exam on a technology that has recently been updated through a service pack or revision (e.g., Windows Server 2008 R2 or the upcoming Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack), you may be wondering if the new features and functionality will be covered by the exam. Well, the short answer is ‘yes’ if that new functionality is related to the exam’s content domain (provided in the prep guide). After all, the purpose of an exam is to certify that candidates possess real world and relevant skills related to a specific technology; if those skills are tied to new functionality, it is reasonable to expect that candidates can perform those tasks using the most recent release of a product. In other words, odds are good that if new functionality is added through a service pack or revision, and it relates directly to the skills being assessed on the exam, you will be...

Change your old Amazon.com password for better security

Change your old Amazon.com password for better security

Amazon's allegedly got an security flaw where hackers can find your password much easier than they would otherwise, and there's already a fix in place. But get this -- you'll probably need to change your password for the fix to take effect, if you haven't already done so in the last couple of years. According to Reddit users, the Amazon.com login system will actually accept any phrase so long as it begins with your password, such as "password123" when the magic word is simply "password" by itself. That apparently makes it that much easier for a computer to guess your password via brute force methods, no matter how counter-intuitive that seems, so if you simply change it immediately -- and to something other than "password," please -- you'll have much sounder dreams.
