Monitor user disk usage in Windows Server 2003

Monitor user disk usage in Windows Server 2003
In any given organization, you'll find a wide variety of users. Some users carefully maintain their network-based files and folders, and they avoid using too much space. Others see network storage as a great backup mechanism for their 10,000 music files. Regardless of what your users are storing, you should make it a habit to regularly examine disk space usage. Making this a part of your normal routine can help you decide whether additional space is worth the expense and whether your users are wasting space. This utility offers a number of parameters. For a complete list of these parameters, enter diskuse /? at the command line.

Details unfolding on Microsoft's Origami

Details unfolding on Microsoft's Origami
As rumors unfurl about a new gadget upcoming from Microsoft, the company's Origami Project is starting to take shape as a very small tablet computer, one perhaps affordable enough to appeal to mainstream consumers. The concept, which Microsoft plans to detail next month, is built on top of the Windows XP operating system but aims to be a new kind of device, rather than a replacement for existing PCs, according to sources familiar with the effort. With a screen bigger than that of a handheld but smaller than a notebook PC screen, Origami devices won't fit in the pocket, but they'll make it into purses and even the smallest of backpacks, sources said. Microsoft's goal is to create a blueprint for devices that could sell for $600 or less, although the actual prices will depend greatly on what manufacturers decide to include. Origami is capable of supporting features like GPS, Bluetooth, 3G cellular technology...
Landing a Job in Todays Market

Landing a Job in Todays Market
If you watch the latest news reports, its difficult to know what to make of the current job market. One day you might hear of layoffs, while the next days reports indicate improving employment numbers. All this uncertainty makes determining your next career move challenging. Should you pursue a new position with another company, or does it make more sense to stay put? While much depends on your skill set and expertise as well as geographic location and industry, research from Robert Half Technology has found evidence that the job market overall is gradually shifting in the candidates favor. The most recent Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Index and Skills Reports have shown greater hiring optimism than in the first years of the decade, although not to the degree experienced during the late 1990s. In the latest report, 13 percent of chief information officers (CIOs) said they plan to add full-time IT staff in...

Microsoft wants to give MCPmag.com readers who plan on getting certified under the new-generation MCP exams a free chance to take some of the exams while they go through their beta testing phases. The new MCP exam betas so far have proven to be popular, according to Keith Loeber, Group Product Manager of Microsoft's certification group. "We've had to turn some testers away," he said. These exams are not for the faint-hearted; you really need to be well versed in SQL Server or the .NET Framework to have some chance of passing them. And there's a bonus for those who pass these exams: a free exam voucher for any MCP exam.

CheatingWhat Is It, Really?

CheatingWhat Is It, Really?
Ive been casually following the Enron trial under way in Houston and trying to figure out what it all means, if anything. The companys founder and CEO Ken Lay and chief operations officer Jeff Skilling were both indicted back in 2001 for basically playing fast and loose with the organizations financial figures. Both have pled not guilty to charges that they were involved in corporate shenanigans that transformed a legitimatebut somewhat minorenergy logistics company into a out-of-control speculative giant. (In fact, Enron once ranked in the top five U.S. companies in terms of overall value, along with companies like Wal-Mart and ExxonMobil).

Focusing Your Mental Energies When Studying

Focusing Your Mental Energies When Studying
In the old dubbed kung fu movies of the 1960s and 1970s, a common theme was that of an unassuming, innocent young man who would invariably run afoul of the local gang of hard-boiled criminals. They would somehow bring shame on the protagonists family/temple/personal honor, and then he would haplessly attempt to get revenge on them, which usually resulted in him being on the receiving end of a beating. Did he give up? Oh no: Hed just go up into the hills or something like that to find the local hermit/kung fu master and beseech him for lessons in the martial arts. The sifu (Cantonese for master) would commence training the young man in a montage of extremely arduous tasks, like doing push-ups with the old man seated on his back or standing on one leg for hours.
