Thumbs Down On Vista For Admins

Well, this is one of the most popular SunPolls in recent years. Redmond better listen up. A whopping 30% of responders uninstalled Vista from their Admin station because Vista does not provide the admin tools that are in WinXP! Comparing the results of Before and After Vista was released are interesting. Here are the numbers, and a lot of you sent feedback that the options -YOU- needed were not there, so we have come out with a new edition that allows for longer time periods, and also the 'never' option. The question was "Now that Vista is close, what are your plans for rolling it out?" In October, 2006 you answered with the BEFORE numbers. In August 2007, these were the AFTER ones...

Windows 7: Microsoft knows where its bread is buttered

Windows 7: Microsoft knows where its bread is buttered

Vista is barely starting to take hold in the marketplace, yet the loose lips in Redmond are once again busily quivering in time with their wagging tongues about the next generation operating system code named Windows 7. According to reports on CNet and Seattlepi.com , among others, Windows 7 is due in 2010. However, the way Vista development went, who can tell? Anyway, aside from the fact that we now know there is a new operating system under development, the reports about what is circulating inside Microsoft say exactly nothing about the new operating system itself that could not already be used to describe Vista. Versions for business and consumers, 64-bit and 32-bit versions all get a tick - would we expect anything else?

Pay, Demand Soar for SAP-Skills

Please take all this "dream job" stuff with a grain of salt. Posting the item just because I thought it might be of general interest. -Trip

IT professionals with SAP skills have seen their salaries mount and demand soar for two years. Salaries for SAP specializations increased 15.2 percent in 2006, according to research released in February by Foote Partners, a New Canaan, Conn., IT workforce research firm. Data from the first two quarters of 2007 suggests little abatement of this trend. "Right now, anybody who is working in the SAP world, either with functional or technical skills, is doing great," said Jim Lanzalotto, vice president of strategy and marketing for Yoh, a recruiting and outsourcing firm, based in Philadelphia. "The demands are for specialized skills, and if you've got to pick the right market to be a specialist in, the world of SAP is hot."

Vista Is More 'Flawless' Than Windows XP – But By How Much?

Vista Is More 'Flawless' Than Windows XP – But By How Much?

An e-mail vulnerability, memory corruption, and the potential for hijacking via spoken command. These are some of the security holes that have shown up already in Vista. Still, though, by virtually all accounts, Vista is a whole lot safer than Windows XP, its immediate predecessor. XP continues to await significant fixes in SP3, an update now delayed by Microsoft until 2008. As witnessed by Symantec's 11th Annual Security Threat Report, Microsoft was already doing a better job than other OS vendors at fixing security flaws during the second half of 2006. Yet nobody in the industry is likely to ever forget the myriad security problems that cropped up in XP early on, before the release of SP2 back in 2005.
