Firms using IP Security (IPSec) virtual private networks (VPNs) were warned of a serious new security flaw by the UK National Infrastructure Security Coordination Centre (NISCC) in May.

NISCC said, "If exploited, it is possible for an active attacker to obtain the plain text version of the IPSec-protected communications using only moderate effort."

UK workers in IM flirt, gossip, bitchfest

The increasing use of Instant Messaging (IM) in the workplace is exposing UK companies to fresh security and legal threats, a study out Monday claims. One in six (16 per cent) of 2,000 UK consumers quizzed in a YouGov survey admitted using IM at work to send or receive sensitive company information or documents. A quarter of respondents (25 per cent) used IM to gossip about work colleagues - twice as many men than women use IM for this purpose. Four in five (80 per cent) of 18-29 year olds use IM to chat to friends and family whilst at work.

And while they're not flirting, gossiping or engaging in a spot of industrial espionage a significant minority of 18-29 year olds (seven per cent) are using IM to look for alternative employment. Cheeky.

2 "extremely critical" flaws in Mozilla's Firefox.

Firefox Vulnerable to Malicious Code Writers

Security firm Secunia is reporting two "extremely critical" flaws in Mozilla's Firefox. The vulnerabilities can be exploited by malicious people who wish to take control of victims' computers.

The Mozilla Foundation is aware of the two flaws. The organization said there are currently no known active exploits of these vulnerabilities, although a "proof of concept" has been reported. Mozilla said changes to its update Web service have been made to mitigate the risk of an exploit.

"Mozilla is aggressively working to provide a more comprehensive solution to these potential vulnerabilities and will provide that solution in a forthcoming security update," said Mozilla executives in a security alert.
