Lenovo links with blade desktop maker

Lenovo links with blade desktop maker
Under the deal, the two companies will cooperate to sell ClearCube's blade systems, initially to the customers Lenovo acquired when it bought IBM's PC unit. The units sold by Lenovo will bear ClearCube's brand. IBM Global Services already resells ClearCube desktop systems. Similar to blade servers, blade desktops are complete desktop PCs, but instead of coming in a plastic chassis, the computers are circuit boards stuffed into a rack in a computer room. At their desk, users have only a keyboard, mouse, monitor and a networking unit that connects them to their computer.

Linux Gets High Marks For Security

Linux Gets High Marks For Security
The IT world may be an insecure place, but don't blame Linux. In fact, very few IT pros participating in InformationWeek Research's Linux and open-source survey say Linux has introduced security problems into their IT environments. Only 6% of 225 user sites report security issues from Linux deployments on their servers, while 6% of 165 Linux PC users attribute a security problem to the open-source operating system. The results indicate a slight decrease in complaints about Linux security from a year ago, when 11% of IT pros encountered security issues with Linux servers and 7% had problems with Linux PCs.

We're Not Afraid

We're Not Afraid
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Web designer Alfie Dennen had called in sick and was at home in London when the bombers struck across the city's transport network on Thursday morning.
As he watched the tragedy unfold, he received a picture sent by mobile phone of his friend Adam Stacey holding a sock to his mouth as he was evacuated from an Underground train at King's Cross, one of the stations worst affected.
The 29-year-old South African native posted the photo on his Web log as he began to hear reactions from other friends and colleagues.
"They were expressing great strength that they wouldn't let these things worry Londoners," Dennen told CNN.com. "I thought it would be great to have a place where people could share these feelings."
And within two hours http://www.werenotafraid.com/ link was born.

Microsoft's Windows AntiSpyware application is no longer flagging adware products from Claria Corp. as a threat to PC users. Less than a week after published reports of acquisition talks between Microsoft Corp. and the Redwood City, Calif.-based distributor of the controversial Gator ad-serving software, security researchers have discovered that Microsoft has quietly downgraded its Claria detections. Is Open Source Ready for VoIP?

Is Open Source Ready for VoIP?
Linux desktops and servers are widespread. But Linux telephones? It could be the biggest use yet. Ben King talks to some early adopters to see how they like running their PBXes on an open source platform.
Open source in the enterprise is most widespread where end users don't see it - on specialised systems where the system only has to do one thing but has to do it well.
The best example is the Apache web hosting system, which has just under 70 per cent market share - but Linux is also widely deployed as an operating system for specialised security appliances.

Hacking for Dollars

Hacking for Dollars
In the past, lone hackers defaced Web sites or launched global worm attacks, mainly to gain notoriety among their peers. Today, they use their skills for profit. They hunt for security flaws and find ways to exploit them, hijack computers and rent those out for use as spam relays, or participate in targeted attacks that steal sensitive information from individuals or spy on businesses.
