    IT Professionals stump Jobcentres

The number of IT professionals looking for work has reached unprecedented levels over the past couple of years. The government ploughed an extra £5bn into jobcentres during the recession and partnered with specialist recruitment organisations to help take the strain and become more reflective of the UK workforce.

But IT professionals are often frustrated by the service, known as Jobcentre Plus. Although jobcentres recognise that specialist jobseekers, such as IT professionals, need tailored support, it still insists they broaden their job searches away from IT after three months.

I have to say Michael that I have no issues with the discussions we have had here, I certainly hold no animosity towards you so please don't even consider walking away from here over this.

I have to say that if I didn't want to be challenged then I sure as hell wouldn't have bothered replying to your posts and would just have accepted that I was wrong. I also admit that not everyone can have the same opinion as me (it would be far too boring) because they haven't had the same experiences as me, am I opinionated? of course, am I always right, hell no.

Can I perhaps suggest that this thread be split into two, from where I jacked the thread to here and let the original thread continue as it was, those that want to continue to discuss the new thread can if they so desire, if not then it can die a natural death.

      Michael,

I see no flaw in Simon's 'argument', nor do I see any flaw in yours; they are points of view. His POV is no more or less valid than yours. For you to say that his has flaws, quite frankly, is unfair. Why is your reasoning or logic any less flawed than his?

If the OP was about a technical matter, to do with, say for example, Cisco CLI or what IOS goes on what device, then I would normally defer to you, given your technical know-how in that area. But, it isn't. It's about experiences and POV. It's subjective... there is no right or wrong. You may not hire someone with gaps in CV, Ryan would. Doesn;t mean you're right and he's wrong, or vice versa.

If you wany to take the views of mine and others as being anti-BM, I can't help that but I can honestly say that they are not intended as such.

I've tried pointing it out, but if you don't see it, you don't see it.

Sorta hard to not take it that way, as I've been called out by several members.

And I have no animosity towards you. But when others tell me I ought NOT give my opinion about what you say, forceful though my argument or opinion may be, I think that's wrong, and that's where I draw the line.

Isn't it great that no matter where we start from, we always end up arguing about how to argue properly.

If it was as easy as that I'm pretty sure they would have done so, some had 2 months notice before leaving, some had 5 days. Some were lucky and got on another contract that started 3 weeks later (hiring company's choice not my friends) and couldn't start any sooner. Others, as I said, have only got work 6+ months later.

As commented in the rest of the thread - luck is a player in this scenario, especially when your finish date is outside of your control, and no amount of "butt-busting" may guarantee that is any different.

That's because some people on this forum don't know how to argue.

EDIT: Wanna argue 'bout it?:twisted::p

Yeah, I can imagine it would be sorta hard when you've only got 5 days notice. Most times, contract employees know when the end of a contract is coming... and if I were in that situation, I'd be lining something up a couple months in advance if I haven't heard anything about an extension.

Still, if there was no end date, and that contract termination came without any warning, it would be hard to land on your feet in 5 days.

I never said luck isn't a factor. It definitely is. After all, it IS possible to get a job doing network administration with no experience... but it's not at all likely. I say only that skill can often trump luck... because if you have skill, you don't have to rely on blind luck to get you that network admin job. :)

Technically, whatever I answer to that could be perceived as an argument... 8)

You know, I read these arguments and I want to see BM lose, but everything he says is pretty much exactly what I think on the subjects, he literally has never had an opinion that has differed from mine!!! I really want to disagree with him on something, it is beginning to piss me off haha. :D WHY CAN'T YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION TO ME!!!!!

Greeeeat... now I have people who agree with me too much who are pissed off! :p :biggrin

Take a number. You may be in line a while. 8)

In any case, thanks for that. I admit, I'm not always right... but it takes logic to convince me.

I agree. We are just discussing something (possibly to death) which one would hope, as we generally come from a wide range of IT roles, would give the majority of angles on this subject.

I do agree with Giddy tho that these are our opinions, and all are welcome. No one opinion should be steam rolled over. I don't think that has happened . . . has it?

**Edit: Just read on, Mike stick around mate, you know we love you really ha

Johnny that was dead funny! I think a good sense of humor is essential in IT. I (try to) never take a debate too seriously because I could be wrong after all. It happend once, in 1992 . . . . :)
