I pay for all my own IT training stuff... books and exams. The stuff my employer would pay for is soft skill stuff, like ITIL.

    Nowt.

I get the time off to take the exams and thats it.

Dont see it changing tbh, far too busy to be out the office although I do get to see product demos by resellers.

    I don't have a budget for training
I imagine somewhere up the company ranks there is a cost center for it but it's not something I have visibility of

I'm actually given a target to achieve certain certs / upgrades and I get bonuses for it
I also get put on whatever free training we blag from vendors

I was down in CA for an EMC course my third week on the job, got my VCP penciled in, and my current objectives include regaining CCNP/DP status, EMCIE, VCP/VCDX, CCEA if possible

These are not single year goals, just my bare metal road map, more gets added and adjusted over time depending on our needs (I imagine a Riverbed cert may be forthcoming, and perhaps XenServer/Hyper-V stuff)

It's the total opposite to what i'm used to (I've paid for 90% of my certs off my own back, with no compensation other than the satisfaction of walking out of a job and walking into a new one 10k+ better off :)

I may get a few more exams paid for this year and maybe a book or two if i am lucky. If i want to go on a course i may be lucky depending on the managements mood and how much i can grovel. I don't like to grovel so i just slip in a course with the provider when we are spending on a major upgrade and nobody is the wiser... well except for me maybe.:biggrin
