Just for fun, which IT exam have you found most difficult?

For me its been 70-290 but as I'm sitting 70-291 next week I may have to change my answer

I haven't found any particularly hard yet. But I found the A+ essentials really annoying due to the ambiguity of the questions and the writing style.

Unfortunately I have only taken the 220-601 A+ Essentials, I didn't think it was hard I agree with GBL here I thought it was quite annoying.

    70-216 The Windows 2000 Beast.

As I haven't done 70-291 I can't possibly say jow it compares to 216, but it took me three attempts to pass it.

It's kinda hard to say... However based on failures the two exams that I failed twice was:

    1. 70-284 - Exchange 2003 &
    2. 71-649/70-649 - TS:Upgrading MCSE on Wndws Serv 2003 to Wndws Serv 2008

    For me, has to be:

Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft® Exchange 2000 Server

I had been working with Exchange pretty extensively; I just went in and winged it. Whew, I was sweating bullets, but managed to pass. I did study, but I didn't give it the full study treatment like I do with most exams. That jump from 5.5 to 2000 was the most dramatic one yet, all the exchange exams since and before that one have been pretty manageable for me. Of course, all the exams since and before I studied like crazy for.

I bet there is a direct correlation to how hard you prepare as to how hard the exam is. :) Less preparation, harder exam. More preparation, easier exam.

Whilst I always get nervous about exams, I can't say I've found any of them particularly difficult.

Sure, the questions are either long, ambiguous and often vaguely incorrect (CompTIA) or just too verbose for what you need (Microsoft) but in some cases that may be for a reason - teasing the right problem (and therefore the right answer) out of a pile of dross (which customers can often come out with).

But the fact that the exams are multiple choice makes it hella easier than some exams I have taken in the past. This will probably change when I come to do some more difficult certs in the future (let's face it, I'm only A+ N+ MCDST) but at the moment, the exam I have found most difficult was my Latin A Level!

I'm with SGUK here. the 216 was a beast and it took me 2 attempts to get through it. Exchange 2000 was also tough and had a retake there as well.

Just goes to show even the experts need a few tries before it all fits into place. I think its important IT exams stay challenging to ensure they keep their worth in the industry

The hardest one I had was the very first A+ exam that I took due to not having ever taken an exam before. I guess it was more the fear of the unknown.

As for the exams themselves, I couldn't say that any of them are 'hard' per se. I did have to take the 290 twice but that's cause I rushed it the first time and didn't know my stuff.

So far my hardest is Net+ - I haven't taken it yet but I just can't get on with the course, light-year wide, inch deep - I hate it :(

Of the others I've done, none were really an issue.

the first time i sat 70-216 i was hit with a real bear of an exam, and at the time there was no feedback that gave any idea of the weak areas, just 'you failed'. i took it again a couple of months later, after going over every topic with a fine tooth comb. the exam was much easier, a completely different set of questions, shorter and more to the point. if i had sat the second exam two months earlier, im sure i would have nailed it. a lot of it is, luck of the draw.

apart from that i found the AD design exam to be tough, though i did pass it first time and ISA 2000, that was another *oh good grief* couple of hours.
