ok this is a silly thing i did yesterday..

Currently on a course and i plug my laptop intot the interweb.
I plug a second monitor into the vga out in the back of me monitor.
Yesterday after 3 weeks of doing the same thing everyday i turned my laptop off in the evening after writing my notes up from the day (i use the second monitor to show slides while the main lappy screen is for writing on)

Got back to the room and turned my laptop on.
Into windows it goes, loads all the stuff i got on me startup (far too much) and BLUE screened with a hardware loop error.:ohmy

ok so on goes my Falut Finding Head,
does it boot into my secondary windows,
does it boot into safe mode etc...

After an hour and a half im getting a little annoyed (well more than a little lol) Had a break and tried again, at this point ive done everything i can think of to sort the dam thing out so i sack it and get some sleep.
(didnt want to re-ghost the dam thing again)

This morning i get up look at my laptop and suddenly a worryingly simple solution comes to mind. So off i todle to the classroom and plug my laptop back in and attach the secondary monitor.

Guess what it works :biggrin Dum me forgot to disable the secondary monitor output and my graphics card got in a flap about it when windows loaded up

    DOH!!!

Just goes to show the old saying...

The good thing about making mistakes is you learn from them and don't forget them in a hurry! :)

Similar story: a collegua of mine was giving a course using laptops (mobile classroom). He arrived at the place, placed the (12) laptops, connected them to AC and plugged in the USB mouses. He started up the machines and came to the conclusion that the mouses were not working. He checked his doing and phoned to me to help in this matter. After some questions it turned out he had plugged the mouse in the RJ45 network socket.:biggrin

The great things about learning is that:
    1. The more you learn the more you find out you don't know
    2. It's great when you figure things out &
    3. The more you learn, when you do something wrong for whatever reason, it make's you feel like Homer Simpson "D'oh!"
