We had about 7 inches in Basingstoke, people were leaving there cars and walking home. Apparently 200 cars were abanded last night and emergency shelters were in place for those who couldn't get home. The dual carriageways in and out were blocked from 2-11 on and off. Guess we cant handle it lol!

Yesterday's problems - at least in the South of England - were completely unaviodable. The roads were properly gritted the night before - for snow which never came, then most areas had a quite heavy rainfall in the mid afternoon (washing away all the grit), which was quickly followed by a heavy snow shower (c. 2 inches in most places) which just sat on top of the sludge and caused gridlock. I almost had a fist fight with some **** at the top of Oxford Street who was shouting at the top of his voice at some poor cow stood at the bus stop trying to keep order - before explaining the above to him at length - whereupon he promptly skulked off with his tail between his legs.

Like Ryan says above, it's pointless us spending millions upon millions on snowplows, gritters or anything else when we only get significant snowfall across England about once every five years. the sweaties spend more money on it (and the infrastructure keeps going as a result) because they have to put up with it every year.

Oi, who you callin' a sweatie?

Just for the record, we normally salt the roads after it snows and if it's done quick enough the roads stay clear. The gritters usually do the sidewalks because after one morning of people walking on it it turns to ice and all the old people have trouble walking on it. For the roads that don't get done so quickly, the gritters usually come for them as the cars driving all over the snow compacts it pretty quickly into ice, especially if left overnight. We also have winter tyres along with summer ones too. Lucky that I changed mine over last week. :biggrin

Not you - so wind your neck in! :biggrin

'Sweaty' is an abbreviation of 'Sweaty Sock' which, in cockney rhyming slang, means 'Jock' (Scotsman)

Not really any money spent to be honest. Just ditch the car and head to the pub, leave when drunk and then somehow get home. :biggrin

This Christmas I'll be mainly getting on my beer scooter. (Beer scooter - Miraculous method of transport employed when leaving the pub after drinking large amounts of beer. So called due to the 'lost time' effect when returning home seemingly in no time and in incredible velocity)
