Well as the title states, I managed to pass the Security+ this morning!

I've been planning on taking this exam for quite sometime (before the December 31st deadline), but just never got the time to do it.

Anyway, I managed to get the last available exam slot at my local test centre 9:00 today and took the test.
This is the first exam I've done in a long time(too long), and even though I'd used 3 different books (Sybex, Syngress and MM Passport) and the excellent Boson ExSim practice tests, I was still apprehensive about the outcome.

    Congrats on the pass NB!

Im sitting the exam Tuesday, any tips or advice? I've used the Syngress book, CBT Nuggets and Transcender test engine in prep.

    Cheers

I found the Syngress book very good with plenty of detailed info in it. I made notes on a writing pad of the relevant points whilst reading through the book, so I didn't have to re-read it all again  These were invaluable when it came to a last minute cram session in the car park before going in:D

I did all the Boson ExSim tests in study and simulation mode (last night), which I found a great help (especially the explanations).

When taking the test, relax, take your time and mark any questions you are unsure of, so you can review them at the end. Also, read the questions carefully, as some are worded oddly.

Thank you kind Sir, I have been making a cram sheet which is currently 4 pages detailing the hard fact and figures, so will be adding to that over the weekend.

CompTIA questions worded oddly? Whatever do you mean!

Once again, congrats on the pass dude! 8)

Well done Notes Bloke, another one bites the dust eh.

Can't quote exactly for obviouse reasons but here's one I remember

State which of these ICF firewall uses?

Windows firewall can be used to allow windows applications to work within specific rulesets.
    It is easy to configure
    It is free
ICF does not perform outbound filtering.

    Pick two

Now if I am a bit crazy shouldn't the answer be all?

This question had me thinking for about 10 minuets before I just guessed which to pick.

I am glad to see that the Syngress book is still good. I used it for the original Security+ exam (a couple of revisions ago) and it was fantastic.

Solid explanations make all the difference in the world, do they not? 8)

Glad to hear that our product was useful! Congrats!

It hasn't been called ICF for 2 years, well since XP SP2 it is 'Windows Firewall'.

It is not free, it is part of Windows, which costs a fair penny actually.

Whether is is easy or not to configure depends on your understanding of networking.

    It can perform outbound filtering.

It is okay...but I don't think it contains enough detailed info to pass the exam (if used on its own). I used it as a refresher just before taking the exam.

Yep .... I found the Syngress book far more detailed than the Sybex book, giving clearer explanations of the subject matter.

Absolutely! It is incredibly useful to have clear explanations as to why the answer chosen was incorrect/correct, as well as explaining why the other options available were incorrect.

    Cheers:biggrin
