My online courseware talks about RIS and i have looked through it so thought i would have a look at my Windows Server 2003 SP2 lab. Problem is RIS doesnt exist on my Server version, i have Windows Deployment Services.

This seems a lot more confusing (i think) but also i cant find much documentation on it either.

I have brought it up with my online provider but what features in the exam, RIS or WDS?

If you look here there is more info, but basically when SP2 is installed on server 2003 RIS is auromatically upgraded to WDS. For the 270 exam it only mentions RIS see here.

My 70-270 book also talks about RIS, but Server 2003 SP2 comes with WDS. What would be the best route to take?

I was wondering about this as well

it seems that Microsoft dont keep older versions online for such tasks

I believe the Ms press 70-290 may contain Windows Server 2003 R2 trial

this is a 2 cd copy of server the first cd is Windows Server 2003 SP1

However, they may have updated the trial to Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2.

    Eg.

although the 271 (mcdst) covers WF from XP SP2 it also covers a lot about ICF which of course you cant experiment with if you dont have a old XP installation cd (nor can you experiment with SP2 deployment etc), i wish older versions would still be available.

Think I might as well setup another VM in WMWare with Server 2003 SP1

Actually they called it, from the downloadable trial

    Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2

i wonder if the service pack is'nt slipstreamed into the main installation and is in fact separate ie a optional installation????

PS I dont have Server 2003 SP1 i hope the book comes with it.
