I recently downloaded 4 demos for recent games launched for retail

Hellgate London: I took an instant dislike to this game, seems to me there is nothing new in this game and seems very like its a hack n slash RPG from 2 or 3 years ago. Nice graphics and decent animation but poor voice acting and poor gameplay. Ran ok at 1024 * 768 (there wasn't a lower setting) so I knocked vsync of just in case and it seemed ok but am not sure wether when I pressing the buttons there was a slowdown because of the card or it was the game, but am not bothered because I won't be playing it again.

Crysis: Excellent FPS game although it looks like Half Life and Far Cry put together with little bit of Deus Ex too, Graphics are decent, seems to work well on my system and my system isn't the best. The AI seems better than it was in Far Cry with enemies trying to flank around so they can ambush you. The only problem I could see is that when shooting enemies take a lot of shots even in the head :blink, but I am very impressed and its very likley I will get this. This ran ok but there was a bit of slowdown but nothing too intrusive, I havent tried it yet at a lower res.

Call of Duty 4: Excellent FPS game also I can't find a fault in it. Its a nice introduction to the series that its set in a modern environment and the SWAT/SAS style breaching and entering buildings is also a nice additon. The graphics are good and as always in the COD games there is a lot going on and you get a real sense of being in a proper battle scenario. I didnt have to change any settings for this it ran at 1024 * 768 with the normal settings on my graphics card.

World in conflict:Superb although you need a decent amount RAM for this it seems very memory intensive at the moment I have 1GB and I know it was struggling as sometimes it froze and thats was with the resolution knocked down and vsync switched off. The graphics are not the best but for the type of game (RTS) graphics don't need to be amazing. The action is pretty intense and you need to quick thinking to complete the objectives. Most games like this are turn based but this isn't so it gets pretty addictive very quickly and needs your full attention or you will loose. I had to turn the res down to 800 * 600 also to stop any slow down and jibbers.

Some people may disagree with my comments about Hellgate London but I would definetley recommend the other 3 before that.

My comp specs can be found on this thread so people can compare theirs to see if the games will work link http://www.certforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=20734

    Yeah, like me :biggrin

I'd recommend Hellgate London to those that liked Neverwinter Nights, Dungeon Siege, Oblivion and Diablo. Played both World in Conflict and the Demo of Crysis and enjoyed both games as WIC looked like an updated version of C&C, and Crysis is excellently rendered.

I'm keeping away from Call of Duty 4 as I wasn't really impressed with 3. Even though 3 was a poor port to the Wii and it didn't have the same developers. Oh well...

I loved Oblivion and liked Neverwinter Nights but for some reason Hellgate doesn't do it for me, and yes COD 3 was bad.

I played the beta for Hellgate London for all of... oh, 2 hours. It was allright, but nothing spectacular I thought. Played Tabula Rasa before it went live, and I have to admit I loved it much more than HL. Even though its a similar kind of premise and style of playing.

Im a tad worried how it will run on my system to be honest, Ive got an Alienware PC, designed specifically for gaming, but it is just over 2 years old now. I haven't played any sort of game on it since CS:S which isn't too heavy on the system. Oh well, heres hoping! :)

I just downloaded Half-Life 2 as I had never played it.

That was quite good but I don't like that steam crap so I don't think I will get that game.

Half life 2 is an amazing game I find. Very addictive at times. I have the HL2 for PC and since I just got the xbox 360 I am contemplating as to whether or not to get it for the xbox or pc. I have a pretty decent pc and I am sure I could crank up the graphics but still I think I might go with the 360 version this time.

Also I heard that world in conflict is a superb game, and to be honest it is definitely on my list of games to try. As for COD4 well I've always loved that game, especially multiplayer.

For the record I'm currently playing Gears of War for the PC and have to say that it is one of the very best games that I've played in a long time in terms of atmosphere and gameplay. I'd strongly suggest that everyone gets hold of it. :biggrin

    Crysis engine is amazing!

The fps on Crysis are quite irrelevant compared to other games, for e.g. 30fps on Crysis plays like 120 on Quake 3 :P

My fps on Crysis are 45-50ish if I remember correctly (system: e6400 @ 3.2ghz, 2gb ddr2 800mhz ram, 8800GT (best value for money gpu's right now!)) and that's without dual core support....

Wonder how things will pan out when they release some patches supporting multiple chips :p

On the down side, none of the newer games have the game-play of titles like Quake 3... /wait

Yea it's ok, I was trying to get it to 3.4 but no-go :(

I believe with the 6400 you can clock to 3.0 (380 fsb) at stock volts, I had to up Vcore to reach 3.2 but beyond that requires messing around with MCH volts, memory volts and possible fsb volts and it was all too much trouble for such a small mhz difference

I have a friend who is into overclocking heavily and moderates an overclocking forum, some of his results are crazy!

The new 45nm Yorkfields are hitting almost 5ghz on air.... GeIF! :p

p.s. my motherboard is the gigabyte 965p-ds3
