i have a BA in economics and never considered getting into IT, but after working it sales after college i realized the business world is not for me. i have zero IT experience, aside from building my own computer, but i decided that i want to get into Info Sec. so i just passed my A+ after two months of self studying and am now working on Network+

Congrats on the A+!

The Network+ is a great follow on from the A+ and I'd recomend the All-In-One Mike Meyers book, I found it a great resource.

I was in a similar position to you actually, no experience appart from building my own PCs so I found most of A+ at least a little familier, but most of Network+ was new to me but as I said it followed on well so fully recommend it.

i bought all three (A, Net, Sec) of his books, they were very helpful and easy to read.

 

how were the job prospects after you passed the A+?

 

Well it all happened a bit differently for me in all honesty.

I applied for my current 1st Line job while studying for the A+, had an interview and basicly went over my near future cert plans (Pass A+, start N+, then possibly MCDST).

Then I passed A+, N+ and S+ all between finding out I got the job and actually starting, which was all in December.

So I've never actually applied for or had an interview with any of the certs I've mentioned at all, just my 'plan' to do them. Everything I've mentioned happened over about the last 6 weeks by the way.
