Hello evreyone, New to the group so please bear with me!
Ive been studying for a CIW Web Site Manager for what seems like my whole life now, I enjoy it- please don't get me wrong but I am finding it difficult partly due to the fact that I'm not in the industry, I work for Royal Mail doing a pretty boring but easy job and it looks like they pay a lot better than your entry-level IT job. CIW seems a good qualification but like any qualification its not worth the paper its on if you don't have experience to back it up with!I'm studying with SkillsTrain, again not a bad company, very helpfull tutors but i am still studying by my self at home-another bad choice making it that little bit more difficult for me
Just planning out some sort of digital cv and I'm working for free one day a week for a local charity in their IT department-its pretty difficult to get experience too.
You all seem like a clever bunch so any advice, suggestions, compliments/insults is all welcome lol, especially anyone from skillstrain or anyone CIW people or any employers advice is all very welcome!

Sounds like your doing right by working in the IT dept of a charity it'll give you some good experience.

Lol, thanks for your reply, that is the idea but weather or not it will work out like this I don't know. Its not the answer I want to hear but I will clearly have to take a pay cut to get a foot in the industry and work my way up-ugh, no easy option-how irritating lol

Hi everyone, hi harry!
I'm not expecting to walk into any job with any qualification really but i was expecting kinda 15k minimum, I'm on 18k now and i walked straight into that job from school-clearly i've been wrapped in cotton wool lol
Na, I dont mind taking a pay cut for now because hopefully in 5 years i'll be a couple of rungs on the ladder but its not the most encouraging of facts is it?
Do you know what sort of markets aren't so crowded?

My view is that you should do the job that a) you are good at, and b) you enjoy.

Picking a career just on the basis of how well it pays, or on how many job vacancies there are will in the long run make you miserable.

And the types of jobs that have vacancies vary all the time, depending on the state of the economy and advances in technology.
