    Hi everyone,

New member here working in IT in Norwich - havent done any "proper" qualifications for a few years now (finished an HND in 2001) and thought I would start out by obtaining my A+ and N+ first.

Having about 8-9 years experience in hardware and software support from helpdesk through second line support I (perhaps wrongly) thought that some time studying a good book and just applying for the exam myself would see me through. Have done some searching around and cant seem to find a straight forward way of just getting an application form?

Great idea with this forum btw 8)

    Hi and welcome to CF!

To book the exam for A+ go to the CompTIA website. It has links to the two exam companies where you can book exams at the centre of your choice.

Thanks - just had a proper look at the main site and have found what I was looking for - that will teach me to be more observant! I was looking for a main UK site but I see its all done from the "worldwide" one.

I will do a search - but any recommendations on a good study guide/book? Something that covers the new exam would be useful I guess!

Just read some of the pinned articles in the A+ section here - there is a *lot* of discussion on this topic.

The most popular book is Mike Meyers All-In-One book which covers the current requirements.

Its been a while since I did any proper "learning" - hopefully this will break me in gently! :)

Hi and welcome to CF:), in terms of how long it takes to read the book and carry out the practice in the book depends on amount of free time you have. I would gestimate that it can be done in three months if taking the fore said into account.

    Best wishes with the A+
