Network Audit Software

    Anyone know of some cheap audit software so that we can tell what machines are on the network. Esp as the bursar has asked us to detail the pc's in the school :ohmy

    well err nmap will do a ping sweep, and more than likley manage to fingerprint the OS version as well
    (free with linux)


    nessus is a vulnerability scanner, scanning hosts in a given range, and finding vulerable holes in them as well
    also useful for saying 'yeah there are 100 machines here' :)

    Correct me if im wrong but doesnt vnc support this feature?

    it can show you what computers on the network, wireless connections, servers and shows if they are "live" on the network
