Name resolution

    Can someone tell in which order the various files and servers are checked when a name needs to be resloved?

    Something like resolution checks the DNS server in your own domain (eg f&l.co.uk), then the root of your domain (say .co.uk). If it still doesnt find the requested IP, it then goes to the root domain (.) and searches out from there.

    Sorry I cant be clearer on this m8 :D

    One question before we start. What operating system are we talking about?

    I only say that because you will need to know both UNIX/Linux and Windows.
