Found on the Microsoft website that if you have the MCITP: Virtualisation Administrator you can upgrade it to MCSA: Server 2012 by doing Exam 417.

    Is this right?

I was going to do the following 70-640,70-642 and 70-646 to get the MCSA for 2008 and then really never thought about 2012 but you can do the Exam 417 at a later date.

But not am thinking might as well do one more exam to get MCITP for Virt Admin and then do the Exam to achieve MCSA?

I am correct in my thinking or what do you guys think?

Yes that is correct, 70-417 will upgrade any of the following to a 2012 MCSA:

    MCSA: Windows Server 2008
    MCITP: Server Administrator1
    MCITP: Enterprise Administrator1
    MCITP: Virtualization Administrator1
    MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator
    MCITP: Lync Server Administrator
    MCITP: SharePoint Administrator
    MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator

Should you do extra exams to get the extra certs? I suppose it all depends on what technology you work with in my humble opinion as I personally don't bother if I don't work with the technology. Purely because I've got too much still to learn on things I work with every day. If I did the MCITP:VA for instance, I'd have forgotten most of it in a few months as we don't use Hyper-V. That said I've studied for exams when I don't work with a technology and it has improved my overall general knowledge of infrastructure support, so I suppose you can't go wrong either way :)

That is of course just my 2 cents mate. No right or wrong answer I don't think. I am really glad that an upgrade from 2008 etc is just one exam. I'll definitely be taking 70-417 at some point hopefully. Cheers, Jim

    Cheers fella,

It's good to be apart of the forum.

I work with Hyper-V everyday so this seems like a better route and easier for me to get where I want.
