I want to get cracking on MCDST but the only laptop I have has vista on it.

Will this effect my chances?

Dude I'm in the exact same situation. Been studying hard for the MCDST in a Vista laptop but with XP Pro installed on a Virtual Machine that you can create using free software such as Microsoft's Virtual PC 2007 or Virtual Box to name just a few that I can think of. You'll do fine.
