Hi all just wanted to say hello.
Having just looked at this site I would just like to say how well laid it out it is and people seem really helpful to each other which is a big plus.
Anyway a little about my self I am male, 35 and a taxi driver who is very fed up with his job and would like a change in career. I have been using my computer for about 4 years now. In that time I have learnt a small bit about them I have built 3 from scratch and upgraded several before. I have also installed my operating system several times (Windows XP Pro). I am hoping to get into a new career maybe doing some system maintenance and also networking installation maybe even security. I have no certs at the moment and I am not sure of which I will need so any help will be appreciated.
    :D

Greetings, law123. Welcome to CertForums. Glad you found the place. As I fellow career changer, I have a great empathy for your situation. It took my roughly four years to make a completely successful transfer from one career path to another.

Based on what little you have mentioned, if you are looking at certifications to help with the career transition, you might want to start with the A+ by CompTIA. It's the basic hardware/OS certification offered and although supposedly vendor neutral, it has a distinctly Microsoft flavor.

Pop down to the A+ forum and look around. I think you'll find it interesting.

Hi from me too law123 - a warm welcome to our place :D

I'd go with Trip's words - A+ is kind of accepted as the opening step if your looking towards tech/support work. It probably in all honesty won't open the doors for you on it's own, but it will give you a good grounding for the later certs, plus the knowledge.experience you'll get from it will stand you in good stead however you choose to proceed.

Good luck, stay around and ask any time you need to :D
