going to be hard to expalin what I mean but here it goes, I'm looking to teach myself what is needed to do the MCTS exam, I brought MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-680): Configuring Windows 7 Book/CD Package.
Now the confusing part is 'Exam 70-680' is this the only exam for the qualifcation or will I need to buy more of these packages?

MCTS is just a title which is awarded after passing any of the new exams much like the old exams and the MCP, although by it's self 70-680 awards this title it is not the old exam that gives the MCTS status.

As already stated, MCTS is (kind of) the same as MCP just for the new exams. It is however more specific in its wording, if you complete the 70-680 you will be awarded the MCTS: Windows 7, Configuration certification. You can then go on to get any of the following certifications:

    MCITP: Enterprise Administrator
    MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7
MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7

    Should you want to.

is it me or does 'specialist' sound "better" than 'professional'?

Isn't the MCITP:EA just the MCSA/E in new shoes?

    It's you mate.
Both are equally irrelevant in this context.

So to answer your question about whether or not this package is all you need (it kind of got answered in a roundabout way) if your goal is just the MCTS - Windows 7 - Certification then you only need study materials for this single exam b/c that is all that is required for the cert.
