70-893 Managing Your Microsoft Accounts

It's a total nightmare trying to study for exams when spending most my of time trying to sort out trial subscriptions which are too short and a pain to setup. I hope this helps other folk trying to setup trial accounts for study purposes....

I've got my 70-697 Managing Windows Devices exam booked for mid August and I have CBT Nuggetted the whole content to get an idea of the scope and also done some reading and other research, labbing etc.

Now I am ready to go through it all again in more detail, labbing and Transcendering etc and properly playing around in Office 365, Azure, Intune interfaces.

Microsoft are trying to centralise the cloud based and device management stuff through Office 365 portal but it's so confusing.

Azure...
First problem was trying to get a suitable trial version of Azure to have a good play around with and someone on a forum suggested signing up for a Visual Studio Developer account. This gives you £20 a month Azure credit for one year. So I signed up and used my Microsoft account. So far so good but later on I had to sign up for another Azure subscription !

Office 365...
Despite having a previous trial subscription of Office 365 Ent E5 it did let me subscribe to a new 30 day trial because I used a new dummy company name for my new work/school account... myname.companyname.onmicrosoft.com so this bit was ok.

Intune....

My next step was to get Intune subscription and I had a few fruitless attempts in the MS evaluation site saying I cannot download an eval (as an MS account is used to login it knew I had trialled it before). So I went to the Office 365 portal and added the Intune subscription under my work/school account. Great.

So most things sorted now and I went into the Office 365 portal to check the Azure AD bit in Admin console. When I clicked on it it said I cannot access it as I do not have a subscription so I had to sign up with another Azure subscription from the Office 365 Portal (under my work/school account of course) which only gives me a month with £125 credit.

I sort of got there in the end but it's bad enough having to study for exams let alone having to stress over expiry dates for services. The trials are too short and with Azure there is added complication of costs per services when playing around with storage, VMs, RemoteApp etc.

How do people who are studying for the Azure exams get around this with the 30 day trial limit ? Also the Office 365 specialist exams. I suppose they give up and just pay for the full service.

The MDOP which includes MBAM and V-App and other tools cannot be trialled or downloaded unless you are a Microsoft Sofware Assurance customer so how can folk test these ?

Frustrating !

You can extend trials on O365 for an additional 30 days (60 in total) by adding your payment details; just ensure you cancel it before renewal
