Busy week. Been out selling network upgrades all week.

DR plan getting approved for one of our bigger customers is a bonus so I`ll be designing that next week with various options.

Still getting the hands on work with a failed Exchange server that decided to stop sending emails to the users windows mobile devices. Managed to get it sorted during the night which meant everyones phone went crazy as their email synced with the Exchange server. :biggrin

    On the beers tonight….

Well... I had three servers nicked from our datacenter last week, so have been dealing with that most of this week

Other than that, pretty quiet, since the theft has f***ed up my colo redesign project as we're not sure whether we'll recover the servers for it or have to buy new ones :x

Oh, and today, the guy I work with passed his CCNA... and since mine expired about five years ago, I better get cracking on re-taking it - which will involve some study since I haven't done any routing for about six years, know bollock-all about OSPF (it wasn't even on the exam when I sat it) and am hideously rusty on EIGRP.

You're kidding! And people give us scousers a bad name :S How could that happen in a datacenter if you dont mind me asking?

Funny you should say anout the CCNA zebulebu, this week I got so tired of our network boys blaming McAfee products for slow responding FAPs I've asked my TL if I can do my CCNA:Sec with Joe's CommSupport in September, fingers crossed I can get it signed off.

Can't go into it - for obvious reasons. Suffice it to say that I'm more than a little bit incredulous (and somewhat dazed) by it all.

Sorry I should know better..... no doubt some heads will roll as a result and a policy change...... a silver lining. These things happen I suppose, failure at the 8th layer of the OSI

Most of the week was good solid contract work, configuring a new client or our monitoring / maintainance setup, but today, still scratching my head at a companies blackberries that are refusing to talk to a new wireless router despite the setup apparently being identical to the previous one - oh and the iphones there work fine.

Polished the week off with a RAID card battery replacement at another client, only to have a "oh I didn't"!? moment when powering the server back up (small virtual host for three others), yes I'd got distracted while doing the actual swap and put the original battery back on the board, queue another 15mins to down everything and put the correct replacement onboard.

I've joined Sparkys sentiments on the beers and am slowly devouring a few drams of whisky before a good nights sleep and 32 hours of Network+ revision this weekend.

Been very busy at work... This is what our small team had to do:

    1. Reimagining mobile classrooms
    2. Getting to grips with a new site-wide wireless system ready for installation next week (for one of our clients)
    3. Setting up a Prometric testing centre
    4. Going thru the process to become an ETA testing centre
    5. Working on failover clustering with Hyper-V (using the Intel Modular server)
    6. Prepping laptops for our external clients (all different hardware models)
    7. Do a SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 migration
    8. Re-do our own wireless system.
    9. Termination of network points
    10. Extend our network (3 more network cabs), due to expansion.

Blooming heck Ken, I think you all could do with a raise!

Its todays world I think, everyone wants something for nothing Silver lining will be that how ever they have managed it, it won't happen again I'm sure. Our datacenters get pen tested obviously but they also use a tiger team to physically attack the building. I've seen it in action and its quite impressive, tail gating, climbing walls, social engineering. A fascinating aspect of IT Sec for sure.
