    Ok, only joking...

    Hi all :biggrin

I'm Darren from Cumbria, I'm 26 today and feel that I have wasted my life thus far and as time is getting on a bit, now seems like the perfect opportunity to cert up. I'm currently jobless because I have just returned to England from years of travelling and getting drunk but I have loads of non job related I.T. experience which should put me in good stead for certification :D (but probably not for a job).

Currently I'm looking at doing - CompTIA A+, Comptia Linux+, CompTIA Networking+, MCSE/A, CCNA, CCNP (in that order) but I really haven't got any idea of where to start (that's why I'm here!) (I have just realised that you're unable to type when someone is chatting to you in Facebook chat, annoying!) and I hate the look of some of those online study courses (though the Open University Cisco CCNA course looks good).

Anyway, that's it :) I can now go and read through the forums till my hearts content :p

    Hi Welcome:)

Are you doing your course with a training provider? Do you realise that the MCSA and MCSE should only be done if you have 6-12 moths and 12-18 months experience in related jobs?

There are certs for people wanting to get into IT like the A+,N+ and MCDST then there are certs for people who already work in IT like the MCSE, CCNA and CCNP. Having high level certs can make your employment prospects harder.

For compTIA exams you can use prometric or pearsonvue. You book the exams on their website. Unfortuantely there are not many exam centers in Cumbria infact the only one I know of is in Whitehaven and its ****. I usually go to Sunderland

For Microsoft exams you use prometric. THe exam center is Sunderland is both prometric and pearsonvue.

No it was like an internet cafe/job center on Tangier street and it totally sucked because the compter you were on wasn't separated from other people so I some tit next to me who obviously had never used a pc before and kept asking the assitant for help and someone one next to me who was listening to tunes on head phones.

    I wouldn't go there again.

Haha! Yeah, I know the one, I found that the staff there don't even have a clue what they're talking about either. Thanks for all your help anyway :)

And thanks for all the welcomes :)

    Yes, Neurosystems do the exams.

And, in fairness I would have said they weren't bad.

Peace & quiet in the exam room, fairly quiet PCs, and located near several pubs for post-exam refreshments.....

I did MCP 70-291, 70-290, and 70-270 there in may, and will be going back soon to complete MCSA.
