how to configure a hot stand by switch

    Can somebody help in setting up Hot stand by switch, i mean to say which can be jack in any of the active port in the exciting infrastructure and provide extendible port, taking care of all the VLANs etc etc.

    How would this be able to handle all of the points that would be patched into the 'live' switch?

    Google for HSRP. You should find a bunch of good info.

    HSRP is for routers though Michael.

    The OP was referring to switches or am I missing the point?

    HSRP can be used on a layer 3 switch simon

    its pretty much a one liner config on each switch i think. What switches you using?
