I'm new to this site and am currently considering a career shift into IT at the age of 30! Any advice, help or pointers? Would be much appreciated.

Hi & welcome to CF :)

    Some advice:
    1. Get some entry level IT Professional certs behind you (eg A+, Network+, MCDST)
    2. Don't expect large salaries, especially for the first couple/few years.
    3. Don't give up on send out your CV/job rejections, it took me 5 years to get into the IT field.
    4. If you can try to get some experience in IT in your spare time thru activities like volunteering, etc
    5. Network if you can with other IT professional's thru sites like this, maybe join a IT Professional association like the BCS that gives you larger/bigger networking opportunities

    Hope this helps :)

Thanks for those pointers ken- much appreciated. I pretty much have in mind getting my A+ and N+, just waiting for the books to arrive from amazon. I've looked into various TColleges like Advent etc and they are really expensive. I suppose i'm a bit of a sceptic when they say they can get you a job! So i've bought an A+ book on Amazon for 20 quid and i see the exam will set me back little over 100 bucks. So i figured i'll give this a try befor spending almost £5000. Can anyone recommend study material for A+ and N+?
Thanks for all your help so far.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you're on the right track. Check out the A+ forum and you'll see some pinned threads about resources.
