Decided to finally register. I've been reading through these forums for a couple of months and found them to be an inspirational guide to getting the right IT qualifications. Getting started on this path is a minefield, and a very difficult subject to get decent advice on. I've also been shocked at the amount of learning centres (in the Manchester area atleast) that only offer third rate IT courses or a very limited selection of professional courses. It seems the Education system is still a long way behind the industry requirements. Thanks to everyones helpful advice throughout these forums.

A little about myself. I've been involved in fixing and building PCs for nearly 10 years, this started as a hobby and turned into a business in that time. I'm mainly self taught, but have a large circle of friends and familly who are IT professionals.
I currently own a small PC shop offering new PCs and repairs, as the competition in this field grows I have decided to get trained up and qualified and this will hopefully be the start of my IT career. So here Iam now doing a part time BTEC National Award in IT Systems Support and with it I'll be taking my A+ and N+ exams. After this I plan on doing the CCNA & CCNP and hopefully find my way into a company/organisation that will pay me to get MCSE/MCSA quals :D

    hi deagle.

Where in the Planet are you situated?

Edit: ahh Manchester of course :p

What's the job situation in terms of IT in the Manchester area like deagle.
To be honest I'm not keen on travelling to Manchester from Soutport everyday but there's no jobs in my town so if I have to move I will do.
Thought I'd ask as your in that area. Thanks:!:

    Welcome:!:

Quite good, but not on the scale of London. There are thousands of small to mid sized companies most of which now have IT Depts of varying sizes. There are also several large companies based here along with many NHS trusts, schools/colleges and uni's. There's alot of low-end jobs available but also a hell of alot of competition for them. A+ is a bare minimum requirement and most companies also want specialist experience in their field.
There does seem to be a shortfall higher up the scale, seems companies are struggling to get highly qualified IT managers and network admins as there are many vacancies there.
