So today I took the 272 exam and passed with an 863.

It's ironic, during the exam I thought that I would pass by low 700's and instead I got an 863. When I was doing the 271 I thought I would pass by 800's but instead got a 780 something.

Anyways a pass is a pass. Also I passed this exams strictly from experience with very little studying. I just did a few small reviews here and there and thats it. Probably a total of 2 hours of reviews for both exams.

    Thanks everyone.

My original plan of getting the 270 exam out of the way was to be and MCSA but unfortunately at the moment I am not really administering servers so even though I'll pass it I wont get to put the knowledge to use. So my new plan would be to start getting that experience with administering servers so that I could then do the MCSA and know that I have the experience to back that up.

As for the upgrade exam, I am really thinking about it but the thing is we currently don't use vista at work so that kind of bothers a little. What do you guys think?

After reading a lot of great advice on here I think that for me personally getting a cert would be after I gain the experience, because I don't want to have certs and not know what I am doing.

Well done on passing and also I think you are making the right move in regard to the MCSA. You will find the studying for that much easier and logical if you have spent some time getting some real life experience of using the software / platform.

    Congrats.

Even though you don't have the experience, you can still start studying the material, that way when you get your chance to work on Vista or Server, you already have some knowledge and will get more out of the experience.

Thats the thing, I have the 290 book only for now. I do read it once in a while but I am not serious about it. As for vista, I do use it as my main os at home. So am getting to know it better and better every week.

    Congrats! :biggrin

As for whether to do the upgrade or not I would suggest that you wait until you see Vista in more use than it is currently. That is not to say don't learn it, by all means do, but don't actively study for it just yet.

I'd focus on learning more of the server stuff and building up your knowledge in that area first. Once you are familliar with the servery and networky things then the desktop side of things, regardless of OS, will just fit naturally.

For now concentrate on getting the experience, not the cert. It is the expereince that will help you better longterm than the cert.
