What is the maximum amount of characters and spaces can one file name have?

    In Windows XP OS.

Also if the user has a roaming profile on a network PC could a large file name stop the profile from being saved?

Yep, a space counts as a character.

There is no specific limit to a single file or folder name, but the maximum overall filepath length is 255 characters. "Filepath" means the entire path string, including all folder, subfolder and file names. So, you could conceivably have a file name that was 253 characters if it was at the root of your C: drive. That is true for XP/2003, but I don't know about Vista.

So try not to bury files deep inside folders! 8)
