Yes it's possible to do this via group policy.

    Hi there

For a domain machine, I think its possible to set the wallpaper through group policy using the following group policy setting: User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Desktop \ Active Desktop - Active Desktop Wallpaper. I haven't tested it myself yet, so I'm not completely sure.

For a stand-alone machine, it can be achieved by creating a template account, configured as you require, and then logging on as another Admin user, and using the system applet to copy the profile to 'Default User'. Remember to set the permitted to use to all users.

Yer you can do it, but i cant remember how on the top of my head. We have a standard wallpaper for all machines for whoever logins. It has to be in the default profile somewhere then.

Thats how my work place manages it :biggrin

We have it done by GPO, but as we rebuild machines we manually set the default desktop as well

It can also be changed in the registry - off the top off my head I can't remember the exact key but I'll check in work tomorrow (had to do this for a bunch of Dell servers that have Dell wallpaper by default - which takes an age to load when accessing remotely over slow WAN links)
