They just won't stop.

I've tried everything, even tar soaked moss balls in my ears, but nothing blocks it out.

They just don't understand either.

They must be sharp, what use is a blunt set of blades.

But they moan, oh how they moan.

Taking Amber in my left hand and the stone in the right I stroke her length with well a well practised swipe.

"Yeaaaaaaaw" "Will ya quit that yer bludger, it stings dammit" - a snicker arises from the table were Gall is resting, he know's it's his turn next but for the moment he's enjoying her pain.

It's odd, to others they are always silent, silent as the wind and yet they speak to me, call me, guide me, and how ever much they complain they are always right, except when it's sharpening time, then I must ignore them.

Another swipe and another moan, "Will ya stop!" "We'll tell ya what we saw today at yer hip while you were oggling Issa"

Ah Issa - such frill.... no, they are but distracting me.

Another swipe, another curse, a smirk tweaks the edge of my lip.

"It t'was Old Shizam, he was a sneaking out around the back o' the stables, but you wouldn't have noticed would ya, hnrr hnrr"

I contemplate another swipe but she's as sharp now as she'll be today, both in steel and tongue it seems.

"Sneaking around with stained sack, dark brown in one corner it was, well darker than a brown sack should be" came the voice from the table, "Ye, ye, and lumpy" adds Amber.

Running the oilcloth over her steely curves I ponder, did I see something over Issas shoulder? Was someone moving around the old stables? I should keep my mind on the job, I'd best go and scout.

Donning supple gloves and cloak I strap Amber and Gall in place, his sharpening will have to be later, there's investigation to be done, one hand resting on Ambers pommel and the other on the door latch I ready myself for the outside - but lo, the cry goes up, it's almost like she knows, knows when I'm leaving.

"Cuppa tea Fred?" comes the shout

I dive outside and hope she thinks I didn't hear, there's only so much tea a man can drink...

Brown indeed, but not just brown, dark rust red brown and smelling like a ripe manure pit on a summers noon, this ain't a bag o' Shizams normal s***, nowt makes something that lumpy, and why would he hide it in Bellas old stall? Gall complains but I'll not dull Ambers fresh edge on this, he hacks through the bindings with both glee and disgust in his mind - a mind soon blanked when the limbs roll out, an arm, or whats left of one, and a chunk of thigh, at least what could have been - Amber spots the glinting ruby first, clamped firmly around the swollen finger. There's only been one like that in the village, that of Matts wife Gwen.

But how is Shizam mixed up in this, first we find Matt earlier and now the remains of his wife. I can feel Amber and Gall pulling me towards Shizams lair, that pit he calls home, but it's not my call to mete out justice on my own, not for his kind, now a witch'd be fair game, but this needs us all to muster.

I'll call the rest, we'll see where this goes. So folks n fellows, let us have a meet, let us decide where the fate of ole Shizam lies - will someone else be me second ?

I'll ave you know i was round stables wi me sack tuffer night. Collecting the horse manure i was so to it was. Hate it when that stuff goes down sewers, the big clumps block me pipes and tis awful mess to clear. So i collects it and saves it to burn in winter. Makes a better fuel for your fire than coal it does, and its cheaper, if'n you don mind gerrin ya hands dirty.

Now i seens some things while unblocking ya pipes ya know. Large rats bigget than ya head, the odd snake (like me snake skin belt?) but what scares me more is those fleeting climpses o shadows i see out ta corner o me eye. I's turn round but there aint nuttin there. Yet i can here the splash of something running away down pipes. Dunno if its no Vampire mind, if they cant stand teh smell o garlic, they probly cant stand teh smell of me sewers. Plus its damp and cramped down here. But what else could it be eh?

I did see that there stranger Mr JK whaterve is name is, looking at one o the manholes in main street last night. Don think ee saw me. But when he looked up, i saw is eyes glow bright, like a cats. And ee sniffed the air like soem sort o animal. I says theres somthing funny about him i do. SO i nominate The Stranger JK for a lynching. Don want his waste in me pipes anymore!

 

Nay Fred I'll not have that said bout old Shizam, he does me a favour getting rid o all the horse sh#t lying around, he's maybe not the cleanest but we'll not hold that against him.... So im going to nominate JK the stranger also !!!!!!

I think the first thing we need to do is take stock of the weapons we have. To that end we need all the garlic that the innkeeper has in his back room. Hop to it Vet Ant my good man, we haven't got all day and night is coming. Then we need to get those stakes that the metalsmith was making for me. Good man Fred for volunteering to get them.

So any ******* pointy-toothed *** who thinks that a swift half of blood is better than a bottle of **** scotch is going to get a **************.

And since that shiney-head JK has been so ************ effectively nominated by you bunch of ***** already, he gets my vote too. Never did like way his eyes glowed red. Un-****** natural.

Yes as this JK fellow has received the necessary 2 nominations I feel I have no choice but to vote for his immediate despatch it is unfortunate really, his strange nature would have given me a fair bit of material to work with.

Ahh well, I'll continue with my tale of the fearless Dick Battery and his lonely watch against the creatures of the night.

 

I was finishing off another couple pairs of my fine frillies, in my workshop, when I was scared to my bones, by the sight of a pair of gleaming eyes... Oh, how I wish I had a strong man to protect me! My poor departed husband Iva was such a special man. He could make me feel safe in his big strong arms...

I will follow the instincts of our innkeeper and will also vote for JK the stranger to be staked.

the Stranger

The darkness draws closer, wrapping it's tendrils around the day and I feel it trying to smother, smother the life from us, to take it as it's own.

They know now what is truly coming for them, glowing eyes are the least of our worries, and a strange resonance between Ole Shizam and Zachary has Gall mumbling in his rest.

Let us hope that you know your course my fellows and fellowesses, let us hope that we can pierce this veil before the end, before the tea is drunk and the cup is dropped.

For me I'll be staying up tonight, I'll take that watch with ye Dick, and if anything tries it luck they'll be sorely challenged by your vocals and Amber n Gall.

Alas, I think the man that I once knew as Fred is the same man no longer. He still hasn't returned with those stakes I sent for. I'm afraid I no longer have a choice.

Night 1

As the Villagers trudge away to their homes, they whisper amongst themselves...
"I was sure he was a Vampire!"
"Do the stakes not work?"
"Why didn't he change?"
"Who stole my ******** pipe, ya ******** *******ers?"

If you have actions that are completed at Night, please get them to me as soon as possible. I will start Day 2 when all actions have been completed.

Oh fiddlesticks... ahh well, he wasn't exactly helping the story along much, lets see... the witch hunter and the foul mouthed Dick Battery, thats definitely got some mileage in it...

 

Well, Andreas, your story is about to take another twist...

Day 2

The Village awakens to find that everyone has survived through the night... but not everyone has escaped unharmed. Overnight, Fred the Witch Hunter was attacked and drained. But amazingly, Fred's faith in the voices in his head have kept him alive! Clutching Amber in a double-fisted grip, with Gall swinging in a pouch at his hip, Fred stumbles to the Village center, white as a sheet.

It is clear that the Vampires saw Fred as a threat to their survival.

Nominations, accusations, and protestations can now begin.
