Firstly I would like to apologise to all if this has been asked before :-)

I've finally decided to get some certifications, I've been in I.T for 8 years but never really applied myself to getting certifications. I am currently managing our SCCM 2007 server and would like to get a certification in this or possibly SCCM 2012. Looking at the site I can see this would be a MCTP but also noticed that this has now been retired. I understand that this doesn't mean that it won't mean anything to me having the qualification but I was wondering if anyone can advice on what possible paths I could take towards an MCSA. Also will the MCTP go towards the MCSA or is that something different.

Also on a side note with SCCM we have people in our team that help package some of the apps (msi), what course(s) would also help in the development of these?

    Thanks

    Hi Doppers,

Pretty much ignore the MCITP moniker - it's being retired and was never really understood/identified by recruiters/companies etc. It used to be the old MCSAs/MCSEs (and everyone understood the levels of each), MS then split things apart and relabelled to MCTS/MCITP (which confused lots of people) and we're now back to using MCSAs/MCSEs again (although with different wording making up the same acronym).

I can't comment on SCCM certs directly as it's not something I've used so I don't know much about the area.

Generally each exam/cert you take, if it's on an MCSA/MCSE track, will count towards the MCSA/MSE. Until they actually retire the MCTS and MCITP designations for exams / a set of exams you would also get them, but not worth the effort or stress to deliberately try to get them imo.

MS's MCSA's are listed here: MCSA Certification and include Server 2008/2012, Windows 7/8 & SQL 2008/2012. Which one were you thinking of aiming for ?

I see you've got another thread regarding the MSI's so I'll let people more knowledgeable than me step in there.

Thanks a lot for your response. It has helped me definitely think on what to do next........appreciate it!

I'm thinking of aiming for MCSA Server 2008 as i'm not sure there is much demand for 2012 just yet. Current environment is 2008 and I don't think we are upgrading to 2012 just yet.
