Its a no brainer consoles with their own unique hardware are always gonna take longer for game development to kick in. Its not just about the hardware, you need decent libraries ontop of the hardware and someone has to write these and it generally takes a couple years. Anything with a PC based design isn't going to suffer from the same difficulties.

Games take a long time to write on their own, theres simply not enough time for the game dev team to write all the libraires as well, if they are supporting multiple platforms they will just do the best they can.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RenderWare

It takes time for these libraries to get optimised for the hardware, the initial port often isn't that good.

In a way the PC is no different, how many apps support dual or quad core ? How many 64 bit processors ? How long does it take the OS, VM and compiler makers to add new processor instructions to their products ?

If you buy John Madden for the ps3 certainley in the US (not sure about uk) if you dont update the firmware then it wont run, and there is no warning in the game box or manual to tell you this.

You shouldnt have to update the firmware on a console

Thats because its in the ps3 manual not on the front of the game boxes, ps wont load any games if theres a firmware update, there are also game updates that should be stated on the game box.

I remeber when GRAW came on the xbox i was one of the first to get a copy in the uk (Pre-order) and low and behold there was a game update availible(That i had to download or the game wouldn't start)

xbox live update correct me if am rong but you need then as soon as the come out or your gettin no online gaming

as for the pc i play BF2 and BF 2142 i had to patch both games before it would show me all the online servers

Nothing new about having to update something in order to get something else to work tis the way of life

I dont think it will, the PS3 may start to do well in 2 years time once the developers have got properly in-tune with all the tools etc.

Industry analysts said before the PS3 was out that the Xbox 360 will be ahead of PS3 for the next 5 years and I agree with them.

The xbox 360 has been around a while and the developers have got to grips with it now and the games are looking and playing really well.

Its always the same with consoles 2 years after launch and they are hitting their stride so to speak.

I think it really goes down to what types of games you play. I think that for sports games a PS3 is better, for other games like adventure and maybe FPS the 360 is better. The consoles are different both are good, its a matter of preference.

I had a 360 elite before and the its a perfectly good entertainment system, but for me its was ok not too great. I ended up returning it. As for PS3 I dont own it and for the games that it has out right now it suits me fine. I am not a big fan of halo for example and its something that many xbox enthusiasts love so much.

seems like the 360 is gonna need a hard drive to play games in the future, although this wont be a prolem if you have an elite

I think it would always be a case these days that you would need a hard driver or at least a large memory stick for game saves

no it'll use the hard disk as virtual memory, so people who don't have a hard disk will have restricted memory resources for the games that require the extra memory.

yeah but the Cell BE(ppc) kicks a$$ sure they could have just got a bunch of blades with the Cell BE but i think that would have cost much more than ps3's, also i was having a little dig at xbox and there red hot chips
