Today included another trip to the local testing centre for a real grilling from the boys at Microsoft.

I managed to pass the 214 with a score of just over 800 but I must admit that was one tough exam.

Guess tonight is time to :morebeer:morebeer :morebeer
I've added both the MCSA: Security and MCSE: Security to my transcript but Microsoft made me earn them.

Thanks everyone. Looks like it is time to start playing around with Exchange again. I've got a seat on an Exchange 2003 course but I woulld also like to have a go at getting the Exchange 2000 design as well.

Pete. How is the ISA coming on ??? I must admit that I do keep an eye out to see how you are getting on with ISA.
I've been playing with ISA 2004 recently but I am highly tempted to cobble together another box to get an old friend back on my network, possibly set up an ISA 2000/ISA 2004 back to back DMZ:twisted:

me and a mate are deploying ISA2k4 boxes to play with, gonna vpn between our respective sites to we can use shared groupware apps like exchange, also toying with Asterix(sp?) the Linux PBX with UDP vpns so we can get decent voip between sites, just need to pick up some Cisco IP Phones
and a few more hours a day!

Okay I think  I have recently bought the Transcender, buying the Transcender is the last thing I do before sitting the exam. I have even tried to book the exam before Christmas but because the institute I was with has been taken over by another company they are mucking me around a bit trying to get them to cough up for the exam fee. Not returning calls and giving me the run around. I will hopefully be sitting it very soon, probably when the VUE centre opens after the break? Watch this space. If the Transcender is anything to go by then this exam is going to be a tough one

I really like using ISA and can make the thing do what I want these days. I remain somewhat confused with some of the concepts, I am finding a lot of contradictions and misleeding stuff on the net. It is not the easiest subject to get really solid info on, even isaserver.org which seems to be a popular site, is full of people giving scratchy iffy information or posts are left with no replies at all.

I will be very glad when this exam is behind me!

i found the same was true for msexchange.org, very nice site, lots of useful articles, but the forums go unanswered for the most part, and this just leads to more confusion
its a shame because with decent forums they could be the one stop shop for concise information, i wish a few MS bods would post there and make a bit of a difference :)

Good luck pete, i aim to get into ISA as well, firstly with friends, but eventually enough to pass the exam for the MCSE:S :)

    Cheers Ryan :biggrin

So what are the requirements for the MCSE:S

I presume I wont be able to tag that sweet suffix onto my MCSE when I get it :unsure

Sorry pete bunt to add the Security tag to your MCSE you'll also need Desingning Security (220) and also Implimenting Security (214). The Comp Tia's Security+ exam can be used but that is a security elective and would only be able to replace ISA.

Here is a link to Microsoft's page showing the reqirements.
    http://http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcse/security/windows2000.asp

I hear you about getting conclusive advice and info on ISA (or Exchange for that matter.) Installing a PCI ADSL modem into an old PC with a couple of NICs helped me. I now have an ISA where you would normally expect to find a hardware ADSL router. Overkill considering the price of an ADSL router, but relying on ISA on a day-day basis means I get plenty of practice :D

Pete: If I can help out in any way feel free to PM me or contact me through MSN, you given me plenty of advice and I'd only be too glad to try repay the favour.

    same goes from me mate

I have very little at present, but ill be applying it practically soon

Taz was alot of help to me during my EX exams and i just hope i can repay the favor :)
