Computer Still Freezing Up After Windows XP boots

My computer is still freezing/locking up right after Windows XP boots. I tried a few things but none have worked. I think I read
somewhere that the problem could be a bad power supply.
Here are some of the things I have tried!

1. Booted computer in safe mode. Ran Norton Anti-virus.
Computer locked up shortly after running Norton Scan.

Can anyone please help !

Professor, try booting into safemode and just see if it locks up.
Did you unistall ZA? Did you download a 30 day free trial of f-prot anitvirus and try running it?

 

did you try the restore point? You have to try these things first so we can cancell them out one way or another before we can move on unless you just totally want to reformat you computer.

Heres a list go though them one by one then post your reply.

Uninstall ZA. Reboot.
If that doesn't work make sure xp windows firewall is off. reboot.
if that doesn't wrok download and burn f-prot to a cd and run it

You want the window verision.

If still locking up do the restore.

I would print that out if your not firmilar with doing it.

Will try these things and will let you know how it goes.

 

This is what is currently happening when I try to boot up my compuer.

When trying to boot in safe mode. Sometimes Windows will finish loadng and sometimes it won't. Rather the computer will freeze before loading Windows.

I have not yet tried to loading from a restore point. I will try that next and let you know what happens.Any more advice
would be great.

One thing at a time, Professor. Try using a restore point and make sure it is from a date when you know your computer was working fine. Let us know how it goes and we'll see what happens from there.

 

That not going to help if he has not removed that trojan he had from back in april. It will just infect his restore files.

Here is a site that maybe able to help you with your problems.

There are many issues like viruses,spyware and corrupted boot.ini files and power supply faults. Also use the microsoft knowledge base for help.

Also check task manager in safe mode to see if any applications you may have installed recently start to hang up.

You could also boot up with xp cdrom in the drive and it will recognise a current windows installation and prompt you to repair windows xp as well.
