:(My sister in law has given me a new laptop to set up for her son a zoostorm freedom 10-270 (never heard of them)

the problem is i cant get the bloody built in webcam to work.....read some stuff about it on other forums and some have been good reviews some have been bad.

has anyone ever used one of these and got the webcam working?

In device manager - is it showing the webcam installed?

If so, have you tried FN + F1 (I think that is the correct combo) to enable the webcam?

Is this a new out of the box laptop or has it been used for a while and the web cam has stopped working?

I got these laptops aswell. Sold 13 of these.

Had the same problem on some of them.

    First
press and hold down the 'Fn' key and press 'f1'
if that doesnt turn on the webcam follow my second step.

    Second
got to device manager from computer properties
    the expand 'imaging devices'
you should see 'something like venus webcam(forgot the name'
    right click and uninstall it.
and then retart you netbook and it will automatically reinstall the driver.

    tht should solve the problem.

I just bought another zoostorm today and had the same problem with my webcam.
So i just done the second option which i posted and it worked.

another option is to go on the website and check it out after you done the second option.
    http://www.testwebcam.com/

Just to confirm after you unistalled the webcam driver something like 'venus2.0 webcam'
and restarted can you go back to device manager, expand imaging devices
and you should get a new name 'USB video device'

i imagine your using windows 7 on it as thats the defaullt os it comes with.

If both the options dont work i guess its the hardware issue.

When the desktop is displayed and i press Fn+F1 should a webcam box open up to show the cam?

When you press Fn+F1 it either enables/disables the webcam. nothing pops up.
but you should hear a default windows sound when you enable or disable the device.
