I actually really like Windows 8, not only the Metro interface but I have noticed it is alot faster than Windows 7. I also really like the Hyper V client for playing around with VM's. It's evolution, you can only stick to one paradigm for so long and MS have realised this.

See I would dispute that. I remember using titles for things back in Windows 3.11! The other improvements I've seen all look to be great but the interface turns many people off, myself included. That interface won't fly in business as the amount of retraining to users to be able to find any thing will be huge.

I'm currently rolling Windows 7 out to my user base and with each group I rollout I have to do a 20 - 30 minute training session with them so that they feel they can still do what they need to do. Can you imagine that for Windows 8.

Not even Apple have gone the one interface for everything route and it saddens me that Microsoft are going that route.

I suppose the same could be said when people jumped from DOS to Windows, Windows 3.11 to NT/95 and so on. All would have needed to be retrained as there were such significant differences.

Actually Simon, reading your blog post on your experience with Linux got me tempted to try it and I really like it. I dual booted Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Windows 7. Only problem I have at the moment is with my ATI 5750 Video card and dual monitors, for some reason its not working with a dual monitor span config. Also haven't had the chance to work on a fix yet, will probably do tonight.

Yeah people don't like running ATI cards on Ubuntu for some reason, I may give it a try on a machine I have handy as I do have a 5770 sitting around doing nothing.

    I am really impressed :)

Funny thing is, I've always owned ATI cards, and its not that I am an ATI fanboy or anything, just how its always been. I have to find a fix, it bothers me, won't stop until its fixed!

CCC has come a long way since what it was back in the day.. I think my next card is going to be an nVidia with an i7 :) I always used to go with AMD and ATI. Time for a change!

I'm not if this is Linux or a Win 8 discussion :)

I'd like to play with a Linux distro at some point, nice to see some viewpoints!

Win 8 - yuk! The metro buttons are probably OK for a tablet. I've only tried it on the laptop but I dumped the metro buttons as soon as I could - I couldn't see the point in having them there! And without them it just seemed like Win7 underneath it. I wasn't impressed, but am willing to watch how it goes.
