I haven't been involved with Cert Forums as much as I would have liked latey due to some rather large projects that I have been leading.

Anyway, thought I would share the good news, I have been promoted to a Pre Sales Technical Consultant.

Really looking forward to the new challenge, I have about a month left to deliver a massive project, once done it will be time to let loose on the new role.

The new role is 'Pre Sales' which means its customer facing.

There is a few different areas to the role, for the SME market, I will be going to prospective customers as the 'techie' and review there infrastructure, everything from firewall setup, group policies, Exchange infrastructure, server infrastrucutre, backups, licensing and then presenting this to the potential customer. In the back ground, I would have presented the solution to sales to remedy all the issues, but sales will deliver this to the customer, kind of like good cop, bad cop.

For larger projects, I will be meeting the client at the design phase and work with them to deliver the infrastructure required. From a technical prosective, I will design the infrastrucutre and then the engineers will implement it.

Definately is alot to learn, but Pre Sales is the route I wanted to get into when I started in IT 2 1/2 years ago. You need to be strong technically so you can defend your proposal to the customers techies, but have the communication skills to present to board level.

Also, the earning potential in a Pre Sales role is massive
