Where to start with that question, 'all of it' in a nutshell.

Personally i had a lot of questions regarding IIS, Group policy, Hardware profiles, Windows installer, Auditing, Disk managment (Basic and dynamic), TCP/IP addresses.
You never know what questions you will get so try to cover all bases. Transcender will give you a good idea of what to expect.

I am also using the Microsoft Press second edition book. It is very worrying to think it is missing in areas because the book is immense and also Im finding it very dull reading compared with the A+ book (Meyers) and the Network +(Bird, Harwood). I guess it is just the style of the writing.

Meltin- You are the same as me Pal. It is a bonus when you can read a technical book that is a pleasure to read! You just can't fault Mike's books, shame he only has published A+ and N+.

I'm currently doing an Instructor lead course for my MCSE lasting 36 weeks (twice weekly) and have just passed my 70-270 exam.

I was informed by the trainer that Microsoft intentionally leave out stuff from the curriculum that is in the exam as they expect you to take the course, work with the product for about a year then sit the exam.

I think this maybe why the MS Press books are lacking information on certain parts of XP. I got asked about 6 Q's regarding IIS, which was hardly touched in the course.

Think i will have to buy the Sybex book it sounds like a better read and suppliment it with cramsession and online. The MS Press 70-290 was a snooze and i actually fell asleep on the train once reading it.

Mate of mine acquired the Microsoft 2000 press books for me a while ago (he called it liberating them from his old employer i believe :tune ) and yeah I thought they were very dull reading and the information just didn't go in

Workmate who has done his MCSE has recommended Sybex and I am waiting for my 70-270 3rd edition to arrive.

So i'll keep an eye on this thread and hopefully pick up some studying tips from you guys :biggrin

Just downloading transender from a bittorrent site at the moment 8)

So your mate nicked an MS press book from work, now you're pinching transcender.
For god's sake, you can buy it for £20.

Uh...adamski...we're pretty much straight shooters around here. Telling us that you have obtained your study materials through illegal or at least unethical means doesn't win you any brownie points around here. I know someone who works for transcenders and I'm sure they wouldn't be pleased to hear of you obtaining a pirated copy of their software.

My best advice to you is to use only materials you have actually paid for. Having a successful career in IT (or anything else) isn't just a matter of becoming technically proficient...it's a matter of integrity. If you want people to actually hire you and want to work with you, your ethical and moral performance is just as important as your technical performance.

    Word to the wise, mate.

    What he said.

I've worked on a network where the previous admin had got all kind of software through dodgy means. There were keygens and torrents everywhere.
Some people see it as a challenge to get stuff for free, and think they are clever for doing it.

    No.

I'm now trying to salvage a network where everything fails the Microsoft genuine advantage thingy because all the keys are borked.
The only option is to scrap the whole thing.
    Thanks for nothing.
Dodgy software only makes your life difficult.

    Don't do it kids...

Wow wow wow hold on guys calm it down

gggeeeeeeeeezzzzzzz sorry if I offended anyone but come on i'm not new to the world of IT, I've worked for 4 different IT departments since I was 19 (Now 25) in Privately owned, Education, Public sector, and now a large Partnership.

I'm sorry but software piracy happens, and I have no issue with not lining the pockets of Microsoft one little bit or any other software company for that matter. Everyone I have worked with in my time in the industry has ripped of software from the companies we work for (and if they hadn't I wouldn't trust them), obviously the works systems have to be legit and thats fair enough, I would never install anything cracked or dodgy on my works laptop or on the servers, but If i had to tally up all the apps I have on my home machines it would go into the thousands ££££.if I had paid for it all legit. I'm not bosting about anything just being honest.

Now I think it is time we got back on topic guys.

I think the message here has been proclaimed loud and clear, and CertForums stance on such matters is fairly obvious. Now, let's do the right thing and get back to the point as of now. Otherwise the useful info in this thread risk being wasted if this descends into a flame session. Wastes all our time.

Hmm well, I took my first practice test yesterday (Trancender) and only scored 65% which I was disapointed with. Some of the questions had me shouting at the screen when I saw what the right answer was!! :) Well there were a few were I felt they didn't explain the scenario as well as they should, or rather were very ambigous on certain points.

I have found the trancender's harder than the real thing in the past and very good for helping me to focus on my weak area's. I clearly need to bone up more on sysprep & EFS amongst other things. My exam is next Tuesday so I'd better get my skates on! :)
