    Hello again,

Following on from my original introductory post in the 'new members area' I thought I'd post here seeing as it's more suited in this forum.

Basically I want to do the MCDST as I want to get into IT Support and basically show that I can work a Windows based computer and am quite knowledgable about the programmes based on it - at the moment I am confident I could net a support role, but I have nothing to back up my tinkering in my spare time - hopefully a cert would give me the edge to get these positions.

I've given my local colleges a ring and they don't appear to do the MCDST so I'm wondering where else I could do it? I would prefer to do it distance learning, online or via self-study but don't know how to go about getting the course material and then doing the practical exams. I've seen a lot of companies on google charging around £200+ for the course but I presume that's just the reading and then you'd still have to source the exam centre yourself. Has anyone gone this route, and if so, which company did you buy the course from? I'm unsure of the credability of some of these 'companies' and feel a bit anxious forking out over £250 and not getting the correct certification.

Any advice would be gratefully received :biggrin

if your willing to go the self study route then you could go for a couple of books from amazon, if you look for sybex books they are pretty good, then you can arrange your exams yourself, i would always go for a exam simulator too (but not braindump material) as they are great for testing how well you are retaining the material.

I typically recommend Microsoft Press and Sybex for Microsoft exams... as vlb mentioned, they're easily findable on Amazon.

I recommend Microsoft Press and Exam Cram 2 books for Microsoft MCDST exam.

I bought mine second hand and sold them on ebay for more than I Paid for them.8)

So to pass the MSDST it cost me just the exam fees @ around £88 + Vat less 15% discount vouchers in the MS press books.

MS Press books also include trial versions of XP Pro & Office 2003 + Measure questions.

Exam Cram 2 also has measure questions which are slighty different.

An A+ first may a better starter route if your new IT.
