I am already working on Server 2012 in the lab.. learning it and seeing what cool new features it has to offer. Honestly its a love hate relationship at this point. Something things are awesome, other things are not so great but I really enjoy learning something new.

No plans as yet - will see how the lab work goes and what customers are looking to upgrade. Cloud work starting to take over so might not even have any servers on-site!

As a "standard" server (fileserver, etc) within 3-6 month. As a DC, physical host for virtual machines, etc. within 9-12 months (as we were already planning to replace our module server/storage array to newer blade or server with SANs next summer).

This will also give us (the whole team) time to upgrade our skills as well as carry on our existing duties :)

If past experiences are anything to go by, the next (full) version should be out in approx 5 years or an R2 version in about 2-3 years time :)

We're starting our move to Server 2012 in the next few weeks. We're migrating to a new domain (the old one has been heavily 'tweaked', so starting fresh makes more sense), and will have all our internal systems up and running on it by the end of the year. I'm really looking forward to getting the virtualisation infrastructure over to 2012, because of the improvements in Linux support (among other things).

already have deployed for a few clients, SQL 2012 on Windows 2012, Hyper-V 2012 clusters and done an AD upgrade to 2012 :)

at home I have the DC/DNS/DHCP upgraded to 2012 and the core systems all running Win 8 Ent

have another client project this week upgrading a disparate file/print/DFS environment to a 2012 cluster

    Keeping myself busy considering :P

Should also be building a (very) large multi-tenanted Exchange/Lync/SharePoint platform with Server 2012 at the core pretty soon. It's a shame those apps don't play well on 2012 yet, but the virtualization architecture (and possibly the AD) will almost definitely be based on 2012. Exciting times!

Where do you find these clients :) I'd love to work with some of this stuff! Every consulting gig I've done in the last little while was Windows 2008R2 Migrations and Exchange 2010..

I’m sure Ryan will be on with an answer but I remember working with a customer that was an early adopter of Server 2003 and Microsoft sent some of their techs to help with the migration – happy days.

On the other hand when I was doing an Exchange 2007 migration the customer still had Windows 2000 domain controllers and I ended up having to do in place upgrades on them to save £££ - I blame the recession. :) These were both big companies but had different approaches to spending their budgets.

actually most of my clients find me these days, or are referred by word of mouth, some of the software companies I work for really do see being on the cutting edge as import to their business, they need to be showing off their wares using the latest tech in order for people to purchase it WHEN they finally move to said tech, so it's a handy place to be

doubled edged sword though, support on new stuff like this is painful, and I still have plenty of clients they play that ridiculous 'not till SP1' card, I call those specific customers names behind their backs though...

@Sparky, honestly mate, must be tough to be in those situations where you encounter Windows 2000 domain controllers and on top of that, having to do in place upgrades  But I guess we can't always have the best of everything!

@Phoenix, I have to admit, I am kind of one of those guys that wants to wait a little before deploying the product right away :) Although not necessarily until SP1 comes out, but around 6 month mark just so that I can get some feed back and any gotcha's that one might encounter at the beginning :)

Currently not planning to upgrade any of our main servers, however as we run the whole lot on Hyper-V I am considering using Windows 2012 Hyper-V Server as a host rather than 2008R2 or even full 2012.

Where I work, they do major refreshes when the 5 year warranties expire on the dell hosts, so that'll be 2016!

No doubt I will have moved on by then LOL!

I'm very lucky in that I'm already working with customers on 2012 installs, most of them AD related. Shame we need to wait for SP3 for Exchange 2010 for W2012 support... One customer would love to start their E2007 to E2010 upgrade on the latest OS...

Oh well, the AD redesigns and hardening engagements are keeping me very busy :)

I'm liking the stability and features of 2012 more and more every day over 2008R2.

So, how's everyone doing upgrading all of their mission critical apps to 2012?

I've become a huge fan of Hyper-V 3. VLAN Tagging & NIC Teaming are an absolute dream to work with now; instead of having multiple NICs to connect to multiple networks, we now just have them teamed (using LACP) and use VLAN tagging at the VM level to determine where the network traffic goes. There's also a really neat feature which lets you migrate (without downtime) from an existing 2008 cluster to one running 2012. Other than for supporting legacy *nix clients, I really don't see why anyone would deploy VMWare over Hyper-V 3 anymore.

Another feature of 2012 which I'm enjoying is data de-duplication. It's quite literally as simple as ticking a box to deploy, and it seems to be doing a pretty good job so far.

I just need to hurry up and sit the 2012 certifications!
