I was late to the IT certification scene, having started work in IT in August 1999 and not passing my first exam until 9.5 years later! Windows XP 70-270 which I passed with bang on the minimum required 700! I remember back then, I got a card saying I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional and a certificate through the post signed by Bill Gates! I'm sure they don't do such things these days.

Just checking my old MS transcript, I failed the 70-291 Beast twice! Looking at the dates, I rushed it only giving myself two months. What a monster exam that was! Ridiculously broad coverage of topics I recall. 3rd time a charm! upload_2023-1-3_15-33-1.png

Nice one mate, a cracking first cert. It's a great feeling when you pass your first one isn't it. Glad it wasn't just me who was a late starter to certification

A+ here – when I was made redundant I signed up for A+, Network+, MCSE and CCNA – managed to get as far the MCSE.

Always remember the A+ book being massive but was fun to read so didn’t taken too long to complete and then take the exam. Think I passed in 2005.

Wow. The years are rocketing by aren’t they. A common thing I hear many people say is that CompTIA certifications are fun and interesting to study for. I’ve only ever done the security+ which I really enjoyed

Ha, Passed my first one 2001/02. I was on the Wi9ndows 2000 track and it was 70-210 W2K client, then 70-215 W2K server about 6 months later. Had to retake 70-216, aka The Beast, and Exchange and by 2004 I got my MCSE Don't think I can get to my MS transctript now as it's been so long ago.

Thought many times about renewing, but things just take over and just don't seem to get around to it. Might have a look at the Azure stuff and see if that takes my fancy.

It’s crazy when you think how much things have changed. How it’s all about the cloud now. It’s definitely a lot to keep on top of

This is true – seems to be so many cloud technologies to learn and perhaps get certified in – will it ever end?

MCSE back in the day was straight forward :)

Mine was A+ back in 2006.

I remember how I even heard about certifications, applied for a job traveled to London for the interview, company was based in the Gherkin so thought it would be good. When I got there was no real job they just wanted me to sign up for a bunch of expensive training for some certs then they would help me get a job! Was so annoyed they wasted my time but got me into certs so every cloud.

My first professional certification was the Comptia A+

    upload_2023-1-15_21-55-4.png

My first MS certification was the 70-210 (Windows 2000) a week after I gained my A+

    upload_2023-1-15_21-57-22.png

Those were the days when you got a nice physical cert, card, and lapel pin :)

I did the 2000 MCSE track, then did the upgrade exams... I remember failing the second upgrade exam a couple of times, the one that incorporated "The Beast"...

Wow so 19 years this year of IT certification. What a guy and still going strong :cjeremy635: and still contributing to the community on Certforums :perfect10:

CompTIA A+ surely has to be the most common first IT cert I'd imagine

I don't think I know anyone who's not failed at least a few exams. It's part of the journey isn't it. You only really fail if you give up don't you (like I did with Microsoft ISA! :rake:)

I'm sure that's not true mate. It's funny isn't it. I don't want to fail but I'm not scared to fail anymore. If I don't pass I think ah well, back to the drawing board, it'll make me really know my stuff. I tell you the only time I have a bit of a gripe around failing, is when an exam says, failed, bye! I like it when it'll say, like the old Microsoft exams, you failed in these areas only

Probably true, it just feels like that sometimes, haha :)

But yeah, totally agree with you, when you're just starting out or young, the sensation of failing can be scary... Now a days, it's "oh well"... And we take it as a learning curve :)
