Its probabally been asked before but what kit do you advise that i purchase - if i am wanting to do the ccna exam

most people say the 2514 - but i thought that was a little old

could you also explain your reasons - as im new to cisco

ideally the cheaper the better too,

    thanks

Something like these will do you nicely

or if you can get it legitimately just use Packet Tracer 5.1 to simulate the environment

You also haven't said what your IT experience is so it could be that CCNA isn't an appropriate cert for you - bear that in mind.

    3 x 2610xm's

    2 x 2950

    4 x WIC-1T interfaces

4 cross over ethernet CAT5 cables

    a few straight ethernet CAT5

    3 x DTC/DCE cables (3ft)

    5 kettle leads

This is the ideal kit, go to ebay and look for a chap called IRP70 his name is Dave, nice man

I mention the 2610xm's rather than the normal 2610's is you may want to continue onto the CCNP or Voice

I would say get a simulator but my preferred one (Emulator) goes by the name that cannot be mentioned on this forum

    Hi,
    Just going through CCNA revision one last time, this is what I've using;
    Tod Lammle's Sybex CCNA book
    CCNA Exam Cram book
    2 x 2621XM with 1 W1C-1T each
    1 x 837
    2 x 2950G
    1 x 3550
    DB60 to DB60 cable (DCE-DTE)
Assortment of cross over and straight through cables. All mine are yellow for X-over and red for straight through.
Desktop PC and a (very old) laptop (the laptop helps when I need another host, port-security and such...but not essential).
...lots of hours and cups of tea :ohmy

I would say that the 3550 wasn't even slightly needed :blink, but I'm expecting to start studying for CCNP at the later end of next year...and I couldnt resist it!!
What would I add, well a 3640 with a NM-4T or NM-4AS would be nice, we'll have to see.
But for now it seems to have covered most of the syllabus, ipv6 was an issue :ohmy, but that might be IOS version related?
    Happy studying!
