Eventually, but not for several years. The 2003 tracks will be around for a while yet.

Am I making a massive leap here or are the MCTS qualifications replacing the MCP ones.

I'm taking the SQL 2005 exam in the not to distant but I'm assuming that means I can't call myself MCP.

    Thanks in advance

    Effectively yes they are.

The MCTS certs are designed to reflect a more specific job role and function.

i upgraded my MCSE server 2003 to MCTS 2008 with the 70-649 exam. Microsoft are getting rid of the this upgrade exam in favour of 3 exams in April, they are also getting rid of the MCSE in favour of the MCTS. ive heard that the exams are going to be more simulated based to try and stopped people from test kinging the exams.

Huh? Microsoft are by no means eliminating the 70-648 and 70-649 upgrade exams.

Simulations exist now in the Windows Server 2003 exams... and that didn't stop those simulations from being braindumped.

As long as Windows Server 2003 exams exist, the MCSE will continue to exist. Considering they're just now retiring the Windows 2000 Server exams, the 2003 exams will be around for at least another three years.
