What constitutes a good home lab setup these days?

I agree, my NUC is replacing one of the VMs I had running which is why I am thinking I don't need the lab any more really.

 

Exactly, next time I am off to the US I am considering taking the NUC instead of the laptop

 

I would LOVE to have a rack and stack at home.
Problem is the cost of electric. We now have a Smart Meter so the wife can literally sit there and watch the ££'s go up when I have a Switch or Router on.

However, GNS3 / PT it and all we are paying is the cost of the computer being on.

 

The issue with a full on rack is that they aren't ideal for home usage, especially if it's got a 35w power demand. Much better off getting prosumer servers (towers rather than racks) and going that route instead.
