Open Firefox 3 and select the following:

Tools menu -> Options -> Advanced -> General Tab

At the bottom of the general tab is a system defaults section which can check and change your default browser to firefox.

there is no reason to have your avg toolbar on your browser unless you want to. That will be a setting within AVG.

Have you checked the add-ons or tool bars menu? Might be there just disabled if not compatible with Firefox 3

Possibly might need to update AVG, but just guessing. I've not used AVG since version 7, much prefer ESET nod32 these days.

    Edit:

Yep, here you go further info: Here Bottom of page

AVG Toolbar may not be compatible with Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1

The AVG Toolbar may report to be incompatible with the recently released Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.1. A fix for this issue is currently being prepared and will be part of the upcoming program update.

Please note that the absence of AVG Toolbar does not affect your level of security. All malicious websites are scanned by AVG LinkScanner technology. For more information about the AVG Toolbar, please refer to FAQ 1188.

I run IE7 as my primary browser, and it is fine. I can run it with Add-Ons disabled should I wish to do so. I also have the Pop-UP Blocker and Phishing Filter running. In addition, I run Windows Defender.

I don't access many sites, and I tend to stick to BBC and MS as techie sites... plus CF of course!

I run AVG v8 Free edition, and Zone Alarm.

I like Firefox just fine - it's a great browser. However, I use IE7 for a number of reasons:

    1) IE7 or an earlier version is installed on every Windows PC, so it's always available - I don't have to install it. Call me lazy. :)
    2) I browse safely. If I engaged in risky browsing behavior, I'd likely switch.
    3) Try locking down Firefox with a GPO. On the other hand, you can granularly lock down IE quite well.
    4) When I was a "real tech", most of the companies I suppored used IE. I had to know it and support it, so I used it. If a company I worked for required primarily Firefox support, I'd have used Firefox instead.
    5) To date, there are no certification exams for Firefox. On the other hand, there are plenty of certification exams that go into IE in great detail. Thus, it is in my best interest to learn IE's nooks and crannies, and the best way to learn it is by using it.

Yes well you cannot uninstall IE, as it is an integral part of the operating system. all you can do is remove the shortcut to it, which is pointless

I have to agree with most people here... avoid IE7 or IE full stop!

I tend to use FF at the moment, but quite interested in what's coming with Google's new Chrome browser...

You can remove it - just not all of it (as certain files are integral as originally suggested)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Removal_of_Internet_Explorer#Removing

"It is possible to remove Internet Explorer from Windows 95 after installing,[2][3] as well as before install time.[4] Removing Internet Explorer from Windows 2000,[5] Windows XP and Windows Server 2003[6][7] is also possible at installation time."

Just in case people require it...

    Oh - And I use Firefox :)

    From your Wiki link Qs

I know you can use third part apps to remove it but having done that in the past, i know you end up with a *damaged Windows system* and you will most likely want to start over.
