VAT on Exams

Does anyone know why we in the UK get charged for VAT on exams? I thought for training etc there was no VAT. Also has anyone tried claiming VAT back for the exams?

There's been a couple of other threads about this. Nobody really knows why we get charged VAT (in theory we shouldn't) but it all depends on your test provider. It seem Vue do charge VAT but Prometric don't (I've used both and have receipts to prove it!)

 

I have never been charged VAT with Prometric...

But the one exam I did with VUE, they did charge ...

(Does anyone else notice how quickly test centres come & go, I'm on my third different centre within 2 yrs)

I've emailed VUE asking why they charge VAT so as soon as they reply I'll let you know the outcome.

 

That should be interesting! Can't wait to hear what they say. I wonder if they'll stop charging VAT when enough of us have realised and migrated to Prometric?
