    Hi
I'm looking to upgrade my MESH system in time for some new FPS such as FarCry 2 and Call of Duty coming out. I know how to do all the actual upgrades but have been out of the game for some time so don't know what's hot and what's not. I'm willing to spend a few quid but need to know how archaic my system is and what i should be targeting for upgrade, can anyone help (all details from SiSoft)?

    MotherBoard: ASUSTek M2N - SLI Deluxe v1.4
Processor: AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core 4200+
    Memory: Micron 1GB DIMM DDR 2 (x2 - 2GB Total)
    Video Card: NVidia GeForce 7600GT
    SoundCard: Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
HDD: Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 320-GB Hard Drive
OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2

    Thanks for anybody's help
    Rod

You may be better off posting on a gaming forum. This one is for IT people taking exams :p

My PC doesn't have the specs of yours but it runs COD4 perfectly well so unless your some sort of hardcore gamer then your system seems perfectly fine to me.

I tried a couple of weeks a go but couldn't find anything, apart from the trailer. Far Cry is being bought :)

I hope they put it through a better QA cycle this time, as I couldn't complete the first one because of bugs.

As you already have 2GB ram, see if you can upgrade that to 3GB. It wont be expensive.
Get a Geforce 8800GT (you can get them cheap now, around £100 - or factory overclocked for only a little more).

    And you should be set!

I'd agree with Jimbooo. upgrade your Graphics card to a 8800GT or higher. You can get 8800gt's for around 100 and better ones for £150 thats should cope with most of todays games and the next few new ones out until xmas. Thats assuming your not running at stupid resolutions. I play most of my games at 1024*768 on 19" monitor and find thats ok for me.

The CPU migh need an upgrade, but if you change to Intel then you'd need a newer Motherboard as well so costs soon start to rise.

I got started in IT due to my love of computers and hardware and upgrading. In my opinion, stuff like this is *highly* relevant... no less so than any other discussions we have about software, hardware, or general technology.

I got a Radeon HD 4870 for around £170. It'll play Crysis on High (with Very High for textures because it's a GDDR5 card) and any other game before it. For an extra £20 than the £150 you can get a card that'll last you years!
