Unmountable boot volume

    In technical terms it says it's knackered.:D

    Because it's dell there may have been a hidden partition for restore purposes, also the fact you have Pro and your friend has Home may cause problems when changing the boot.ini to the same as yours. I'm not sure if you need only tell the PC where to look for the OS or if you're supposed to tell it what is on each partition but an example of the boot ini is below.

    I modified my own one a few months ago when one of my OS installed vanished and replaced it by copying, pasting and editing the partition numbers (I had 2x XP PRO).

    Hope this makes sense :S

    I've just ran the full dell diagnostic tool and it came up with 4 uncorrectable read errors on the hard drive test. My guess is that its goosed.8)
